So early in the series, the foreign nation ruled by a tyrant has heard of Melmo's candies.



So, it sends two trusted henchmen to lure her into its clutches


Note Heck Ben sitting behind Lamp. As actors, they often work together, with Lamp as the leader.

I have skipped a good deal, but I prefer to focus on the later portion:



Melmo has just discovered that her seat belt is stuck, & Lamp assures her that it is intentionally so.




Sasaki Kojiro as the pilot; this episode has quite a few tough guys, though some are just barely seen.




Note this woman's resemblance to the 1980s series' Cathy. As far as I can tell, her name is 'Chanta.'

Also, note her THIRD REICH style uniform. Tezuka features references to & parodies of the THIRD REICH in many series. Chanta also resembles Col. Vega in the MIGHTY ATOM story of the ROBOT SPACESHIP.






I hope someone can read these subs.


Melmo has just changed between kid & adult form, & back again.

There is a lot on nudity in this episode, & though it is innocent, I realize some may be offended. Thus, I skip those frames, though some may easily know what they are.




Melmo is obviously no longer in child-form.

Now, W has Melmo change into a rat (though, perhaps it is supposed to be a mouse), so he can smuggle her out.



The station master is about to get an eyeful, once he give the rodent whose tail was snapped in a mouse trap, the candy.

Well this isn't lovable 1980s Kathy. I guess why should it be since she's going to be a 'bad guy' though. I guess it is Kathy, since the Rock in Marine Express is suppose to be the Rock in other Tezuka works even if not drawn the same.

I'm wondering if somehow that you're using a Chinese copy since there are Japanese subs? Although this And it's subbing a song. Not the most important part of the show's dialogue (although it can have some importance).

If that Wikipedia article about Melmo that I've read about this series is to be believed, there are even Japanese parents that got offended. I'm still interested in the series when I read about it though. Although I'm not sure how much of an issue it'll be when I watch it.

You posted this in July 2011 and the screen caps don't show a conclusion, but I don't know if you're done? Or maybe you only post more if there appears to be interest?

I hope my post make sense and I didn't get myself in trouble (the minor stuff likely) since I started replying and then wandered off to other parts of the internet in other tabs and came back realizing I had started this. :d oh: And my brain is getting cross-eyed.

About the nudity, in the many anime dvds & on-line shows I have watched, there were a few series that included FFN of little kids, mainly boys. Goku is probably the best known streaker & skinny dipper, but Toshiro of (999) also runs around naked once in a while. I vaguely recall bathhouse scenes with little kids chasing each other around. I do feel weird writing this, though, as why I should remember such things seems questionable.

I have nothing to add about the nudity in MELMO, as I really do not know enough of Japanese history or culture, other than that bathhouses were not usually segregated by sex until Macarthur Westernized or Americanized much of Japanese culture.

About the rest of this episode, I really do not like posting too many images from any one episode. I rely on Tezuka Co.'s tolerance of my posting some images, but cannot assume blanket tolerance for any such activity. I am assuming T Co. is aware of our forum, though it may not be so.

The rest of the story involved Melmo's escape and the humorous misadventures that occurred as she did so.

I guess remembering what got censored or could get censored in a show? Or the differences between what a Japanese audience would allow on their shows versus a Western audience? That would why I would remember the DB one. And maybe my discomfort.

I guess you just like posting some of it for fun? Or is it because they are hard to access? It probably would be better to enjoy them with audio and moving images, as it was meant to be enjoyed.

And another note last post I didn't mention because I forgot regarding the subtitles, with translating Japanese characters, since it seems Google has made it closer to translating them more naturally, maybe even the characters in your image could be converted into characters that could be easily read in the right format. I don't know if it would be difficult to do since I've never tried that. I don't know if anyone else reading this thread or someone else has even done that with another show with Japanese subtitles. It would be good for translating, even if it was a rough translation.

Thanks to the alert from F-Man, I watched this episode last night. While much was already understood without the subs, they did make clear Lamp's name & title: Guroro Sukaka, Minister of Chicchaina, & Hamegg's title: Ambassador. Also that they lured Melmo there with a line about a "World Children's Festival."
