Here is another one about choo-choos.



1st, Atom gives a brief history of locomotives:



Recall that Jetter Mars' 1st episode followed this example.


Here is March, a train with a robot engineer.


All the kiddies love him/them.




But this guy, dislikes the whole idea (of robot engineers?).


His boy has issues with papa's dislike.


But, papa reassures him.












I remember going on vacation with parents, & being bored from the long car trip, we would try to entice the truckers to blow their air horns.









"My choo-choo is so much better than March."


"I challenge you to a race; the losing train is to be destroyed!"




I guess this is where they proposed rules & such.




Note the Popeye features on this guy chin & nose.


The 'T' seems a bit weird; The BK had one on his shield.




Does this little boy seem familiar? Some might remember his appearance in 114, METRO MONSTER, another train adventure.

"Interfere with our cheating, will you?"




























Finally, the boy has had enough of his papa's cheating.








Apparently, Ochanomizu finds something in the rules a bit unreasonable.

I love the image of Astro all stretched out - he DOES look more like Cobalt!

Here is another episode that appears to be jam-packed with a lot of humor (what happened to Elefun's nose?). I just get the feeling that they were having a great time making these shows and felt that the wittiness was as important as the moral message. It seems a lot of humor got dropped as the original manga and anime went into subsequent interpretations.

Again thank you Jeffbert for posting another of "the 89". Some of it looks familiar. Is it possible that this episode was some how reworked as "Speeding through the Storm" for the 1980s series?

AprilSeven: yes, I agree that the humor was much more ingrained in this series than in the 1980s or 2003.

ASTROBUDDY: I wish I knew, but can only speculate based on similarities, though that is what I do anyway. I have a fairly hefty chapter that does just that with more than a few stories.
