This episode will show how Cobalt got his new hair style.


Upon the invitation to a certain nation's celebration of a robot Mayor (which is not a big deal, since#43, His Highness Dead Cross (Ditto) saw the inauguration of the 1st ROBOT PRESIDENT, but anyway, it is a great honor.


The car is automated, but Atom's siblings are bored with the leisurely drive, so, press a button for a steering wheel.


Since it is a flying car, why not take a shortcut?







Everything is high-tech, & computers have automated nearly everything.

Images I omitted show traffic flowing smoothly, etc.


The Mayor at left, & his aide, ‘Margarito’ at right. She is portrayed by Yuriko (Maria) of #85, Demented Beltway (76, Mad Beltway); it was the wiggle in her walk that Fred Ladd & Co. cut from the ELV of that episode. Her 2nd appearance was in #111, Robot Polymer (--, --).




Raymo, the robot Mayor is malfunctioning, as indicated by his eyes flashing. He may have inspired the appearance of the Sphinx in the Atom Returns manga.




The man's name, as near as I could tell, is Dr. ‘ISAACA’; who created Raymo.


I know I have seen these guys before, but cannot recall which episode.


Hanako-sensei of 69, Rebellion of the Dinosaur People ("Miss Ann Thrope" in 59, Dinosaur Dilemma) lost her job to a much younger chaperone in 2003's Franken. Hanako also appears in 132, Prince Louis (--, --). In this current episode, she is a mere extra.

These next two seem rather funny, unless you know that Atom is trying to break out, but failing.























Uh-oh! Escaping will not be as easy as it seemed.

Someone already posted a few scenes from this one before, I remember Cobalt's hair styling and Sporkiar is already using that as an Avatar!

Aah, yes. I have waited for a thread for this episode for awhile. This one is definitely one of my favorites for a number of reasons.
But that hair though. It never fails to crack me up.

I think Robot Mayor's name is more accurately translated as "Reymon" or Raymond or Ramon.

The slap on the face of the girl would very probably have been cut by Ladd as he knew what was acceptable to Standard and Practices of US broadcasters of the day. Although they could also have probably just edited it in such a way that you could see the slap, but not the full impact.

I have also waited for you to get to this episode.

In #183 'Japanese People from Space', Astro slaps grown-up Tobio in the face for disintegrating the outer space double of Dr. Tenma with the downsizing gun. The scene startles me each time I see it, like, "Astro hiting a human? And if that alone wasn't enough, it's actually Tobio he's hitting?"
Not sure if Ladd would have left that scene uncut as well...

Well a slap is different than a punch. The former is almost like a gesture rather than a physical blow in anger and not really intended to cause harm.

True, Tetsuwan Penguin, but he did knock her to the ground. Most of the American kids watching the dubbed episodes likely had been spanked rather than slapped on the face; thus the two spankings that passed censorship in the earlier episodes, while face slapping rarely, if ever did. I think I will make a thread about it.

While Raymo or 'Raymon' or Raymond or whatever his name is pursuing the kids, the cop robot next to him disagrees with him--

The robot Mayor flips out, & becomes homicidal.





These flying robots have no such scruples as that police robot had.

One man in this pic seem to have either a growth on his face, or an enormous wad of chewing gum in his mouth.






As far as I can tell, the Mayor had told his people that Atom was a dangerous robot.

I thought this was cute, so I have frames for a GIF.








In a later episode, this fleeing crowd will be dressed as soldiers, including the babies.

I'm sure that there is a cultural difference here. It may not be politically correct, but in some countries face slapping is rather accepted as 'normal'. I recall there once being a contest in Russia where the contestants slapped each others faces for hours on end. Rather bizarre I'll admit!

AprilSeven mentioned she'd seen that same effect on him before, but viewed from the back, never from the front! His 'hair' in that shot reminds me of MY long hair when I was in college! (Almost shoulder length). I rather like that, it looks good on him!
