I voted for the original Japanese 80's opening, as it's very happy and up-beat.
The french 80's opening would come as a close 2nd, and the german one would probably file at the end of my list (sorry Rick!).

I remember that the german voice for the 80's Astro was done by Rubina Kuraoka. Her voice suited him very well.

I think both can work for any picture, but with one you'll see the background sticking out instead of the foreground. At least that's what my book said many years ago.
