I've thought on this, too -although I haven't fleshed it out the way you did, so beautifully. I think I might have been tempted to keep Astro in the "movie universe" (You've blended and re-vamped the origin story in many ways) But I'm cool with all that - I have to re-read it to let the new perspect...

yeah, he blended in too much with the bkg. Maybe AF might have a different technique, but it's a pretty low res image - that's what the stroke around AB looks "raggedy" and the frame of his glasses looks too thick (it was actually set for 1 pixel).
