I've often wondered where 2003 Tenma's fixation on Astro being the "king of the robots" was coming from . . . and I believe it's from a ironically contorted part of his soul that says it MUST be his "human son" (Tobio) who would become a "perfect robot", and then HE could "join" Tobio to rule over ...

Hmm...Astro a government official? You know, that might not be a bad idea for a series of stories. No, I didn't find Tenma to be a villain either in the 80's series. Granted, I've only seen the first few episodes of that show, but I defenitely agree with you there Forever.
