Interesting, nice video. While on youtube I found an episode of Jetter Mars that was sub'ed into English, but dubbed in another language. This one was "Lamp the space trader". Tezuka DID put an Astro image in there, take a look at this fountain statue in front of Mar's home.

FYI - the 1960 English dub anime Astro seems to call her "Sis" most of the time. ;) IIRC Astro did call her 'Sis instead of Astro Girl. Uran probably used that name herself more than anyone else. I agree, it's too easy to forget the mentality of that era. How things change, and words shift in and o...

Although he's technically not a "villain," I'd say the "villainous side" of Tenma! :d evil: Especially considering how they interpreted his character in the 2003 series . . . he is the consummate "mad scientist!" :w00t: From the "Darth Vaderesque" voice, to his admirable skills as an organist - to ...

Isaac Asimov predicted hand held calculators in his 1950's 'Foundation' series. He also predicted something called 'Psycho-history' something that is now being experimented with thanks to today's super computers. Asimov was probably one of the most accurate predictors of future technology among scie...

Who's your favorite vilian from Astro Boy (or ANY Tezuka story)?

Rather than Hi-Jack the Skunk thread I'll start a new one. As the title asks, who is your favorite "heavy" character? Mine is Acetylene Lamp. Lamp has played various kinds of "vilians" some real nasty, and some just mildly so. He also played a cop in Blackjack that while a real pain in the rear for ...

Maybe Jeffbert can identify all the episodes from which the original opening credits came from. For starters there was Colossus, and the Artificial Sun. Looking at the photos for the ending credits the second image (astro flying) was used in the very first episode where he first flew while fighting ...

There is also both science fiction and fantasy in Star Wars. The space travel elements and the 'droids are pure SciFi, the Jedi stuff is fantasy. BTW, Robots at one time WOULD have been considered Sci-Fantasy, not so today. The original robot story goes back to Jewish folklore in the Golem story upo...

I don't know why, but your image of Ochanomizu with Atom and Uran triggered my mind to create an image of Ochanomizu as Saint Nick. I wonder if that ever crossed Dr. Tezuka's mind (and maybe pencil).
