Ha! Mini Atom drew Tezuka's face on Fooler's bald head. SO Atom DOES have a sense of humor!

In the 2003 series I think he is actually called 'Astro' even in the Japanese language. At least the frame where Dr. O'shay sees the word "Astro" on a piece of equipment was in English, which is something that the Japanese animators often did, use both English and Japanese lettered signs in the artw...

The same story was in a recently released 3 book manga series. I don't think Uran was in the recent Manga version.

I just watched this episode. I like the way that they replaced the usual closing credits and music with Uran's theme. BTW take a look at 18:21 into the episode and note who one of the classmates is. They stuck Pinoko in there.

I just took a closer look at the Steampunk Astro I uploaded. Dr. Tezuka, Uran, Dr. Ochanomizu and Higeoyaji are in there! I swear I didn't notice them before.

I've also found Dr. Tezuka in the "last reel" of the 1980 time travel episode with Black Jack and Pinoko. He was the villain of the story unmasked.

I borrowed the first disk of the 1963 series from the local library (wish they had the whole set, but only had "the beginning"). In the second episode there was Lamp candle and all. Then in episode #4 ("the Sphinx") I snapped these two frames. Anybody find Dr. Tezuka anywhere else in the 1963 series...
