Well, Arriety wasn't just Miyazaki's film. I know I've seen a film made back in either the 80s or 90s, which I think it was called "The Borrowers". I think there's also a book about it and I think it's a folk lore tale if I'm not mistaken.

It does look very similar. And lucky you. All my teachers used to show us back when I was in elementary school was just Charlie Brown, Dr. Suess, and Magic School Bus stuff. I've never had an anime show shown to us at school before. That's pretty cool.
