In the movie, at least, I'd say it's probably made from the same substance as perhaps a super-bouncy ball. You know, either rubber or soft plastic and gel!
Yeah he made a note to say it was gelled. I already mentioned the movie touching on the subject, but I doubt i...

Astro's hair
Has it ever been said what exactly his hair is? I mean in the 03 series that girl in Fairy Tale (Mina or Nina, wasn't able to catch the first letter) does seem to identify it as a hair-like substance ("funny hair"). But it always drawn like a single solid mass of, i dunno, metal. But there have been...

Dragonrider: Yeah Family Channel played up the advertising alot and Family Channel is the Canadian extension of the Disney Channel (essentially) so I imagine the latter was advertising it in the same manner (getting one of their narrators to briefly talk about it in one of those featured trailer mom...

Dr. Tenma
Having never read the manga (and also having only been a fan of astro boy for 2 months), I want to ask something I'm unsure of.
I read somewhere that the version of Tenma in the 2003 series is based on a phase of his in the manga. Is that true? Was he at one point as creepy as that?

I sure hope so. The movie was obviously not designed for us hardcore fans, but for getting the series a solid standing in the USA. I didn't know McDonalds was chipping into the action, but I knew Disney was. I'm thinking that it's accomplishing the goal of garnering american support for Astro Boy, I...

massive character Bit of an overstatement. He wasn't massively altered, just scenes with him acting more childish were initially removed to play up his heroic aspect. BUT that happens less and less as the series goes on. I've been watching Volumes 3 and 4 of the 2003 series and his boyish aspects a...

That 2003 Astro Boy probably would've been received better if they weren't trying to dumb it down for kids I wouldn't say it was dumbed down for kids. It was Sony doing the dubbing, not 4Kids (4Kids is related to Fox which is a republican outlet channel and thus well under the FCC's tyranny). On th...

Astro Boy Unloved in America
It really is true, the poor guy receives zero love in North America. I've looked around and despite being a true anime classic, Astro Boy is overlooked and ignored in North America. Now granted the dubs haven't always been stellar, but they've been better than most anime dubs. Especially the 2003 se...

(I'm going to join with an original character. Daniel Lumin, an extremely well made and realistic android that's an electronic nervous system with synthetic parts added around it. He's stronger than a human, but nowhere near as much as Astro. Besides other basic robot abilities, like being able to s...
