There were at least two, maybe three episodes in the 1963 series with time travel. "a day to remember" (manga title, not sure of the episode in the us dub), "time machine" they go back and deal with dinosaurs, and another one that might have been time travel or alternate reality.

In the Manga story 'A day to remember' Tezuka talked about a holiday where the Japanese remember departed family by sending lanterns floating on a river. I got the feeling he was describing a real holiday and didn't make it up for the manga, (though he might have changed the details). Anyway that wa...

Ksharf, have you read Urasawa's "Pluto" manga? Astro isn't the main character, but he's certainly at the core of the story - especially as it moves towards its conclusion. What I found appealing about it - beyond the quality of writing and illustration - was that he took the "corny-ness" out of Tez...

Jetter Mars had a cape. I think Atom did in the weird redux Tezuka did when he was also drawn with nipples.

Book Review: The Art of Osamu Tezuka, God of Manga

I'd like to submit to you my personal review of this book: The Art of Osamu Tezuka, God of Manga by Helen McCarthy. This is a large (and usually expensive) 'coffee table' book, measuring 12" x 9". It is an impressive volume printed on heavy quality paper, wrapped and sealed in a thick plastic protec...

I saw a video on youtube awhile ago where Tezuka appeared on a Japanese TV show. He was interviewed and was introduced by Astro Boy super-imposed on the screen (blue/green screen chroma key). He talked about some of his characters and they had cels of them hanging. The show was put up in two or thre...

Look on ebay. On any given day I can usually find a number of items (mostly from Japan). I've seen the gambit from plastic models, tin toys, plushies, etc.

Well the word Robot comes from the Czech and means worker. It was coined in the play RUR (Rossum´s Universal Robots) which I had to read in High School. While Karel Čapek envisioned his Robots in human form (his were more like bio-machines than electro-mechanical beings), ANY machine that perfo...

Viki is now streaming a lot of Tezuka Anime. They've just added Fumoon, and have "the three eyed one", and "Don Dracula". They are looking for people t0 help sub more anime's into English and other languages. Maybe they will do Jetter Mars if the original Japanese prints can be found.
