The Thief and the Cobbler c.1993 is an animation which is fairly little known. Its animation is beautifully handled and makes several references to old movie techniques which were popular in the silver screen days. The main character, Tack (I think that is how his name is spelled, it is how it is pronounced at least) is very striking next to everyone else in the picture. He is mostly colored in tones of white, black and gray while everyone else is vibrantly colored. I always liked that part of this film.

Tarzan

One of my favorite 2D animated Disney movies. I've always liked this poster too.

One of my favorite "time travel" movies. I'm trying to figure out how to write a Fan Fiction crossover with this move to put Astro in it.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari - Robert Wiene

Is it really the first ever horror film? Not really. Robert Wiene (the director of this film) years earlier directed a film titled "Fear". Said film also shares the lead actor from The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. But, in reality, the first ever horror movie is the 1896 short "The Haunted Castle". An extremely corny short with plastic bats, sheet ghosts and incredibly energetic cartoonish devil.

I digress. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is still a great film despite not being the first of its genre. The style is unique and bizarre, being that it was a part of the German Expressionist Movement (other films include Nosferatu, The Student of Prague and The Golem). It's funny though that in reality the main reason why they used the warped and distorted backdrops was because of the fact that they couldn't afford enough stage lights.

Aside from that, I view this in a way as one of the earlier zombie films. The reason why I say that is because of this: there are so-called zombies in Haitian mythology, what they are in reality though are people under the influence of a mind altering drug. The villain Cesare shares some similarities with the Haitian zombie myth, the main similarity being that a zombie follows the commands of a wizard/priest (Caligari).

Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron c.2002 is one of my favorite Western animations ever. Beautiful animation, amazing writing and has a fantastic movie score featuring songs by Bryan Adams.

click for spoilerAnd the horses don't talk to each other like most movies with animals do! There is a narrative voice but FINALLY a movie that uses body language and action as a voice instead of anthropomorphizing to such an extreme.

on a side note there are like 6 movie posters for this movie, the one I wanted to post just was not working for some reason.

Carnival of Souls - Herk Harvey

As a low budget film, Carnival of Souls is extremely effective. Focusing on the psychological trip of a spirit in the world of the living as opposed to special effects or gore like most horror features.
This film is also currently in the public domain, so you could find it on YouTube quite easily.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention. You know this dude who appears in the film?
Image
That's Herk Harvey (the director) himself playing the lead ghoul.
