Some of the 常用漢字 have 20+ strokes in them. That's nuts. However, keep in mind that the amount of strokes does not indicate the difficulty of the meaning and that there are radicals that can break up the 漢字。

According to google translate the three characters 日本語 together mean Japanese, but individually, they translate as DAY THIS WORD (left to right).

I guess I'm missing something here.

I wish I can type Japanese on Google Translate, but All I see on my laptop are Blocks with numbers and letters in them. No Japanese Characters at all.

That's because you don't have the fonts, you need to install them. What's your operating system?

I'm sorry, but what do you mean by operating system? (I'm not too good on computers, except when it comes to typing. :blush :) Do you mean like what version of windows do I have or what kind of laptop I'm using?

I also know that there is this thing called a "language Pack". And I think that's what you're talking about. Is it not?

I don't quite know how to access them from the keyboard, but in ubuntu/mint in the synaptic package manager a quick search for 'Japanese font' brings up quite a large collection of available packages.

Ok, so I think I did the right thing. I couldn't really understand your instructions Tetsuwan Penguin. Is this some sort of program I'm supposed to install?

Anyways, So I googled on how to install Japanese font on my computer, and I read some instructions on Yahoo answers. Apparently when I'm finsihed installing Japanese text on the regional and language options, I'm supposed to restart my computer in order to have Japanese text on it. (This better not switch everything to Japanese! I just want those boxes to be Japanese characters, not the whole english text on the computer! >_<! So yeah, Hopefull I did the right thing.

Okay! Cool, so it worked! ^_^! Now it's time to catch up on my Japanese! I usually learn by remembering what the characters look like and that's how I can tell for some characters. I am able to read a little bit of it though, not much.

I'm no 日本語 expert, but I wouldn't say Google Translation is exactly accurate. The problem with Google Translation is that it tries to literally translate everything to English, even though you can't do that since English and 日本語 are so different (which is why it is so difficult to learn 日本語 ;) .
