From what I saw on amazon, since it looks like what I already got, I won't be buying it. Personally, I was hoping that it would be the comics with their original panels. I bought a book on ebay (also have seen it on Amazon Japan) where it's basically volumes 6 through 8 EXCEPT it is a whole lot closer to what people originally saw in the newspaper, there were deleted and extended scenes, missing elements of character arcs, and even a deleted episode! I hope to see this book I got in my hand in English.

Since I'm missing volumes 2 and 3, which are included in volume one of the omnibus it was a good deal for me.

@TetsuwanPenguin Since some of the earlier dark horse volumes are harder to find, then maybe the omnibus would be good for you or maybe as a gift to someone who is missing volumes.

You describe the Chronicles of Atom (Once Upon a Time Astro Boy--); yes, the deleted episode seems to be Tenma's youth in which he had become involved with terrorists. I think it is the 4th or 5th arc. What's more, is that the whole series starts differently.

I received my copy of the Omnibus-1. It has everything from the first 3 volumes of DH, plus the first story from volume 4. As I was missing volumes 2 and 3 this was a good way for me to complete the first part of my collection. (I now have the 'Greatest Robot', 'White Planet' and 'Mad Machine' stories!) Since the format and content of the Omnibus series is just a repeat of the previous DH Astroboy manga in fewer but thicker volumes I probably won't get the next two issues. I already have volumes 4-13, plus 15 and 16. I would buy the Omnibus series volumes that contain everything past volume 16 (if I can find a copy of volume 14).

I'm not sure exactly WHY DH is doing this instead of just re-printing the previous issues, but for anyone who does not have the older collection, or is missing 2 or more consecutive volumes this might be a good deal to fill in your collection.

My guess is that it's either more cost effective for Dark Horse or they're making it easier for their costumers to get all of the volumes. The original releases had 20-something volumes while the omnibus will only have 8 volumes.

I personally like that the omnibus has only 8 volumes. I only own the first volume from the original Dark Horse releases, so it'll make it much easier and cheaper for me to buy the entire series.

@Jeffbert I know it's different, but I am hoping that some how it could get translated into English as I am curious to read how much does the dialogue different :)

I personally like this omnibus reprinting because it lets me have all the volumes I like collected, but I can skip over what I call the "Timeskip AU" - the three-volume storyline involving Astro going back in time and helping those weird aliens - which I feel is the weakest long term storyline in the entire manga. It doesn't fit with any overall canon, and so many characters acted way crueler or way more different from their usual selves. It's in volumes 5-7, and like, have you guys SEEN how deranged Hamegg and Tenma are? It's way too jarring for me. :(

On the other hand, my other reason for liking the omnibus is how a bunch of them together look really good on a shelf.

I'll pass on it as I have the dark horse volumes that it includes. Might get the latter ones though.
