An avi or a mpeg, but I wouldn't erase the background.

Really, I don't think I could do better than what you already have in your signature. If you would like to use either of them (or another similar one) as an avatar, maybe it would be better to start with those and just make them smaller so they would not be bigger than 100 px X 100 px and 25 Kb.
