But, I found another one.

Here are some that I previously did not post (the others have also been restored):

Ham Egg also played 2 roles, both himself, the cheepskate lowlife showman & his robotic counterpart, who suffered as much abuse as the other robot actors.

Here, both the human Hamegg and the human Patman are trying to escape Atom's wrath at their abuse. Hamegg seemed to be the agent for this actor, but also seemed to be a director (see earlier post).

The actor is playing him, so he can't really fly, if you look at page 2 you'll see the pictures explaining it.... lighting his jets with matches seems.... dodgy.

It is cute to see two Astros in the same picture

Lets back it up nice and slow now...

I guess one of the reasons it wasn't broadcast in the states was due to copyrights. :whistling:

Was there a Superman analogue? Tezuka is said to have been a big Superman fan hence helps make my argument that Astro Japan's answer to Japan much more stronger ;)

No this was one of the last episodes made. NBC productions only picked up on the first two seasons and opted out after that. Guess the show's popularity in the US faded after that (strange as that might seem here).

I don't think it's popularity faded as much as no stations were broadcasting it.

Our family got their first color TV in 1964, and I remember the BIIIG thing was for each station to broadcast color programming. Poor Astro Boy was suddenly "out-dated" being in black and white, whereas Hanna-Barbara, Warner Bros. and others had PLENTY of full color cartoons.

It's too bad the originals were not in color. I'll bet it would have continued if it had been in color.

I just saw this episode from the 1980 series http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogszU_zqjuc (#28). Guess it's the same story idea.

Oh and I guess the color TV angle was a problem. We didn't get a color TV until the early 1970's. I talked my father into buying a 21" color TV from Heathkit and I built it during my freshman year at college. (I went to a local college in NYC). Now imagine if Ted Turner had bought the rights to the 1960's series......
