A query from Big Astro Fan got me motivated to get back into my Astroby Lego project. So I did a bit more work on it and here's the latest photo:

Image

His chest opens up now. His pants need a bit of smoothing on the curves, but it's great to be starting on his torso now. It gives a much better impression of the final height.

I've just bought another 1000+ pieces, mostly fiddly special pieces for the inside of his chest. This is coming along really well and I'll post some pictures of it soon.

It'll be at least another year before I finished the entire model (darn those rare and expensive tan bricks).

Wow! :o That's wonderful!!! :wahah: Thanks for posting!

I would have suggested using yellow instead of tan, but that would give him a little bit of a Simpsons look!

I know you had already talked about it, but do you use a model or are you doing it all yourself? I'm amazed that you can open his chest!!! Congratulations! Just getting this far is impressive!

I would have used yellow, since that is the color of the LEGO figures skins.

The yellow in Lego is really vivid. It's even intense for a Bart Simpson sculpture (someone made one). The closest thing to Astro's artificial skin is either Tan or Flesh. Flesh coloured Lego is really rare so I went with Tan.
This is actually enough Tan around (at least, over the course of this project). It's roughly double the cost of the common colours.

Here's the latest picture:

There's a lot to fix up - the yellow and black inside his chest needs to be replaced with dark grey (like the grey on the viewscreen). I also ran out of inverted slopes so the inside of the door is missing a lot of pieces.

So far so good. B)

The Astroboy models I have are not particularly true to the anime, so I'm going by screenshots. It sounds harder than it is, because all I have to do is measure his dimensions on the screen and I know how big a Lego brick is.

what is the circular red item (not what is is supped to be)? Is it a LEGO piece? I sent in some pics of a pirate ship & a few other things that I had made, but because there was a non-LEGO part on one item, I could not get them to include my projects among their published photos. ;)

It's a 2x2 radar dish on a 4x4 radar dish (attached with snot). The tag above it is a red cape from a minifig.

Is there a place you can send stuff in for publishing?

I dealt with LEGO's USA people, but that was 10 years ago. If I had such a creation, I would contact Tezuka people & offer pics to them. Perhaps LEGO might be interested, there is an official site for the USA, & I would think there would be for Australia. I was lucky to meet the distributer in a local Toys 'R' Us, some years ago, & he gave me contact info for the domestic office.

How do you get new bricks? Do you order them, or are they available in stores?

I wish I could have done that when I was young. I never had enough pieces!!!
