Small trivia: can someone guess where my current avatar comes from?
Let me guess.....It comes from that episode?
"Astro, you must exceed the limitations that humans cannot!
You must be go beyond nationality, ethnicity,
pilosophy, and religion,
starvation and poverty,
and war!
Exceed these limitations created by man!
You must fly high! Higher than any human has ever flown before!
To reach for the future that no human has been able to so far!"
I saw Astroboy on ITV back in the 80s, I was still a little baby back then so I didn't mind the disco-ish music ^_^; I think the first one I saw was the series premiere(In syndication, I wasn't born yet when it was first aired) or close to that, I do remember seeing Astro and Dr. Tenma/Boynton together in an episode, probably back when Astro was still called "Toby"
Wow, interesting stories.

Danny's story reminds me that I've also watched my first Astroboy episodes on a black and white TV, IIRC. It was in the 80s, but I think my dad put that TV in my bedroom Friday night so I could watch the cartoons from my bed on Saturday mornings. I'm sure some of the younger ones here might have trouble to envision that, but I didn't mind a big that it was in B&W.
I first saw Astroboy when I was 7, back in 1982. My brother and I would come home from school and watch cartoons. A series run of something had just finished, probably Star Blazers or Battle of the Planets, and the very first 80s episode of Astroboy came on. We thought it was pretty cool. We were also surprised to see "1982" on the opening screen. This was brand new!
When I got sick as a teenager and spent a lot of time watching TV, I taped nearly all the episodes and watched them repeatedly. Strangely, I didn't see Speeding Through The Storm until 1991 so I must have missed that one every time it was on.
When Siren relesed the videos in 1997 I bought the first one to watch the first three episodes again. It was always easy to miss them on TV unless you read the TV guide every week and the stations didn't mess up. After that I got hooked again and bought the rest of the tapes.
It wasn't until some time around 2000 that I discovered that the old B&W series even existed!
I didn't ever "play" Astro, but I remember trying to perfect the Monkey Magic cloud summon.

Once my dad was telling me "oh I used to work on a japeneese cartoon called astroboy" A few years later (a few months ago My dad was going to china and was going to take my GBA SP and got the astroboy omega factor game. a couple months later (around 2 or three weeks ago) my dad found this site, made a couple posts as Micheal DeMark (I was there as David DeMark) and ordered the 80's box set on DVD. I finally saw the series he worked on! So far Ive watched the first five episodes and loved them
I wish Astro was real...........
