I do not know how many others are aware that I quit the moderating team the other day. I had several reasons, the most relevant one for people here is that I have certain views on certain topics that seem at odds with the modern views held by many others, including some members. As I do not expect them to change their views on these topics, they should not expect me to do so either.
I find myself unwilling to simply back down on arguments about such topics, & I spent many hours on the moderators' forum discussing this topic, not only that of the controversial topic, but also that of my unwillingness to concede, & I am just tired of moderating.
Even had it not been for the controversy, the mods, myself included recently spent many hours discussing tactful ways of handling various problems, and such. We do things that some members will never know about, depending on what time we or they visit the forum. You cannot even imagine how many topics there are on the moderators' forum, or how many post there are in some of these threads. We learned the hard way how to deal with these problems, and it took many hours of discussion on some of them when the site owner Mark first selected a moderating team some 5 years ago. Since then, we have reacted quicker to some of these problems, but occasionally there are new ones. Of course the topic of controversy itself was one of them, and I dealt with it as I saw fit. But I am out of the mainstream, so it seems, & my way cost us the loss of at least one member; this I regret.
I am working on an ASTROBOY book, which seems to be ever expanding in its scope, & taking more of my time than I ever thought it would. Thus, I find relinquishing moderator status should give me more time to work on the book, & I might actually enjoy the forum, instead of finding it often burdensome.
To whomsoever should become a moderator in my stead, I think you will find the task challenging, sometimes tedious, but rewarding. To those whom I offended in my overzealous attempt to keep things as I thought they should be, I apologize. As the preamble to the forum rules states, we all have our differences, let us concentrate on our shared interests in Tezuka's most iconic character and the adventures he created for him, rather than our differences.
