This clock looks cool, but metal clocks are known for extremely loud ticking.

I read somewhere that in Japan butts aren't particularly sexualised. No more than, say, a person's shoulders. Which is why sumo wrestlers have bare buttcheeks and no one bats an eyelid.
So maybe to Osamu it was just another part of the body, but we take notice because it's kinda weird to us.

Maybe the strange location for refuelling ports was merely a humorous way to show how different robots were from humans. I recall Cobalt commenting upon humans' weird way of taking their food, in the manga.
