I had a Robocop figure that had removable helmet and chest plate, & even had battle damaged hemet and chest plate that could be used. The problem as I see it, is that the 2003 series bombed in the USA & was not even very popular in Japan. It was just too much of a negative, too dark, etc. Now comes the movie much too soon after the demise of the series. People will likely associate the 1 with the other, & ticket sales might be rather disappointing. Toy makers must be hoping against reason that people have short memories. :p

Aww, the new series wasn't very popular in Japan? Pitty. As for America, considering there was a lack of decent advertisement for the series, and only ran for about a month or so, they're probably hoping that no one was even aware of it XD I'm pretty sure most weren't

I just think this is the reality of the matter; I wish it turns out to be untrue.

Well, as I said before the series kinda came and went pretty quickly in America with little advertising so I'm guessing most people probably weren't even aware of it's existence so this could be like a fresh start for Astro Boy in America. Plus, even if ticket sales aren't all that greart *and I know i'm not expecting exactly The Dark Knight success here* there's always rentals ;)

Looking back at this comic, I noticed something. You said people in Japan said it was "too dark" and stuff. Did they actually READ the manga? I mean, we are talking about the series where Astro ended up in mid 60s Vietnam O_o Not to mention, I thought the 80s series was a bit darker because robots actually got killed in that one
