I thought it was a bit of a stretch to make a mere energy source override a robot's nature, whether it was designed as a child replacement or for a combat role. Of course, it may seem silly to over analyze these things, but if we can assume that robots such as Orrin are designed with redundant layers of protection against going haywire, we should assume that a robot weapon would naturally have even more redundancy. But even if not, I think it is one of those dumb plot elements that too many movies have. This is one plot element that I really dislike; it is clearly more fantasy than Science fiction.
I watched the extras, & found myself wondering why I had thought this was made by a collaboration between the Japanese & Americans. There was no mention of any Japanese contribution to the making of this film, other than the licensing issue. Why else would there not have been a Japanese sound track on the DVD?
