My favvvvvorite part is when Astro's jets turn to blue fire in the movie. Jives you a sence of how much power he really has in his little feet.

Still, his engine's sound effect remains the same - despite the lack of air.
Not to mention the normal conversations Atlas and Astro hold in space, as if it was normal. I would think that something like a few bytes exchanges would be faster and more accurate.

Count me as another who just likes the sound of Astro's jets in the 1980 series, but of course, I'm biaised.

This is actually very close to the way his "movie jets" sounded: a muffled "boom!" followed by a rushing sound.

I don't care WHAT they sound like -- as long as they get me where I wanna go!

I know this isn't on the jets, but I found out the sound of Astro's boots in the movie (when he is first activated and staggers to Tenma) are the exact 1960 anime sound effects his boots make then, ya know with the squeaking.
They actually went into Tezuka's sound effects bank and got it, so it's not duplicate but the original sound. It was on some Nick Cage interview but I can't find it, came across on the director's twitter page (and that's a looooooooong page T.T).

ohhhh I LOVE that 'weep/womp' noise!! It's awesome they used the original sound effect. I wonder what they used to create that noise back in the 60's. The manga never indicated he made any sound when he walked, right?

Well they...didn't really have sound mangas or smell tv back then so lol jk jk, I can't recall them making sounds in the manga. When it go maded into a anime I guess being a cartoon they thought normal footsteps sounds would be boring so gave him the squeak factor to make him more interesting.
