I think you have 2 episodes confused as one. In the 6TH episode Grass Boy (Japanese: 15, Plant People), Plant man (Grass boy) a female character does not die, but she returns to her true form, as a plant. There are images on the linked page that show this. She actually blossoms into a flower.
In English 88, Contest in Space (Japanese 97, Confrontation in Space), Atom is teleported with the bank robber he had been chasing to an ARENA planet; they are to fight an alien human and robot (Very likely based upon the OUTER LIMITS' FUN AND GAMES & both upon Frederick Brown's ARENA). Atom and his teammate defeat the alien robot, then contemplate killing the alien herself. Yes, she is a female, and also very pretty. They decide they cannot bear to kill her, though their captors had demanded a fight to the death. Then their captors tell them that they have passed the test; they reassemble the alien robot and everybody goes home. Note that this was several years before the METRONS teleported Capt. Kirk to his own ARENA, where he faced the GORN.
I cannot think of any other episodes that might have inspired your memory.
