I didn't like Astro's outfit at first and I did wonder for the longest time why Tezuka gave him that outfit.

Now that I have known the character for a while now I guess I got used to it. Now it doesn't really bother me. It does kind of bother me now that in the 09 film that he was in his classic outfit for only two scenes of the movie.

That's just my two cents on that. But there are worse things in anime and manga than a little boy wearing only underwear and boots. It's not like Astro Boy is child pornography.

This is why he had to wear clothes through 90% of his movie >> Americans have no innocence. If someone is naked or close to it, then it must be for sexual reasons. Thus, putting a little boy in just underwear must make you a pedophile or something.
I find it odd though. Considering no one ever complains about Dexter from Dexter's Laboratory's butt constantly being exposed. (And it got exposed A LOT!)
But you know what?

Not only America, Europe is not better. Everyone that of his, that is my motto. But a question is occurred to me. Look at Uran:

She is in clothes. Maybe because she is a girl, but in the manga she leave in the story with Pluto in Astros shorts. I thing we make us too many thoughts.
Tezuka has not done, so why we do it. It is as it is. Astro Boy is a very fantastic Manga. :astro:

I first saw Astro back in the 60's (so it wasn't in color). I was only 10, and to me it just looked like he wore a Superman or Mighty Mouse "hero" outfit, and it seemed perfectly natural to me.

Today's kids (and adults) have been exposed to a LOT more sexually-charged imagery, dialogue and humor, and I think there is a tendency for people to look for any kind of potentially sexual innuendo and point it out.

Astro Boy is blessedly innocent -- and that innocence allows you to focus on what he's really about: honesty, courage, faith and love in the face of any/all adversity. What can be better to inspire people than THAT?

I'm just surprised he isn't more popular, but - as I've said on this forum a number of times - I still feel his best days are ahead of him. I think he was created "ahead of his time."

As far as I'm concerned, each time I'm looking at Astro's face, he's always able to make me smile; to lift me out of any heavy mood. That alone causes me not to care about what other people might think about my passion for spiked and red-booted boy robots.

Knowing what I do now and having gotten into the series more, him wearing his classic costume doesn't bother me anymore. Even so I've never thought of him in a crude way, if anybody said anything like that to me I'd just tell them straight it's how he was designed to look by the god of anime.

=_= Besides, I think are more gross things to be concerned about in anime nowadays, like high pitched airheaded girls with unrealistic body shapes, getting into the most crudest of poses and situations. Anybody got a bone to pick on innocent Astro, tell them to go pick it on that >_<
