This one obviously takes much influence from ROBOT OLYMPICS.

Atom practices for the quick-draw event.
Oops, I tripped!

Ochanomizu meets his old friend Ponkutsu-Hakasen, portrayed by Ochanomizu's SURROGATE from 110 Expedition on Mercury (100, Menace from Mercury).

Image
Tonbi, Ponkutsu's robot, will soon break down.

Guess whose team will employ dirty tricks.

This score board is for fencing, not the chasm leap.

Why Boon has Hamegg try to bribe the guy with the robot least likely to win, escapes me.

I have sequences of frames for animated GIFs for this and several others. PM me with your email address, if you can make the GIFs & will share them with us.

An evil doer has kidnapped Ponkutsu, & demands Atom come alone to a secluded spot.

Tonbi is out of the competition.

WHOA this is a great episode!! What's up with the stretched out Atom? Is he going "Gumby" on us?"

I can name a few people who are going to have a lot of fun captioning the next image after that! XD

Oh, yeah - and what's up with that announcer eating corn on the cob!! Dr. Tezuka was feeling VERY SILLY that day!

This seems very similar to what Lee Marvin's character did in the Twilight Zone's STEEL; I understand they are making a movie of it.

Another amusing animated GIF awaits.

This & the one that follow, remind me of a PYTHON sketch. :w00t:

So much for me dressed as robots.

This robot seems unaware of the 1st Law.

Tonbi actually won; it seems Atom rebuilt him.

Image
A sore loser!

Image
Tonbi also defeated Atom, but I wonder--

Thank you, Jeffbert for another great posting of one of the "undubbed 89".
Especially this one which features some well known members of "Tezuka's stock company".
It is always great to see these postings because for most of us it's like uncovering an all new Astro Boy story.
Now for the review! Yes it is obviously a variation on "The Robot Olympics".
It was great to see that the old timer robot from "Menace from Mercury" appeared in another episode. I would have never thought that he was any thing more than a one time character.
But I do have some questions. Twilight Zone, "Steel"? is that the one were Lee Marvin pretends to be a robot in a robot boxing match?
What first law? (or should I say whose first law?)
Any way thank you again!

I  :astro: :)

I have no idea why. But Atom's expression in this screenshot just cracked me up. Maybe it's just me I don't know but I thought the look on his face was pretty hilarious.

Yes, THAT STEEL. I actually had the 1st attempt at the thread's 1st post chock-full of text, but somehow, my browser closed unexpectedly, so in the 2nd attempt, I was not writing as much.

The 1st Law is Asimov's 1st Law: robots must not harm humans or allow them to come to harm. Tezuka also uses a variation on this, though stated differently. I thought Tezuka briefly discussed his & Asimov's laws in an intro to a manga story, but my notes make no mention of it. :astro:

BTW, ASTROBUDDY, can you read the captions on the pictures in your 193 book for this one?
