Gotta love Atom in that ape suit. :p

Thanks for sharing, ASTROBUDDY! I have to agree with Strange Wings that the coloring was done very beautifully. Gotta love blue-eyed Atom. :)

Speaking of which, Atom's eyes are blue on every page except for the one where he's wearing the ape suit, where his eyes are brown. That's kind of interesting...

Yeah, I always thought Atom had blue eyes too (the shading in B&W would lead you to believe they were a significantly lighter color than the black of his pupils). I also though his boots were blue, and his belt was red. Wonder why.... :whistling:  :D

I really like the color they made his eyes in the 09 movie - almost a golden/cinnamon brown. Very compelling - you just HAD to look at them.

I looked closely again at the original and while it may look like his eyes are blue in some panels in the majority they appear to be brown. (At least as far as I can tell looking at the original and not the scan.) But it is interesting how in some color pictures his eyes are brown and in others they are blue. I think the official coloring is supposed to be brown. Does any one know for sure?
I  :astro: :)

Referring to both of the official anime-series from 1980 and 2003, Astro's eyes are brown indeed. I have yet to re-watch the 60's Moon-Monster episode in color, but I tought that his eyes were brown there as well.

Jetter Mars definitely has blue eyes, with only one eyelash on each. Tezuka sensei was very thoughtful in making JM appear different than Astro, thus avoiding possible legal actions (since he'd lost the copyrights for Astroboy since Mushi Production's bankruptcy).

Looking at the color pages of manga, his eyes are brown.

If I remember what I read about that, is Tezuka never lost the copyrights to Astro Boy or any of his other creations. What I remember reading is that he lost possession of the films of the animated series produced by Mushi Prod. I believe the films were then given as compensation to his creditors. This is where I believe the confusion about who has the right to Astro Boy begins. As far as Jetter Mars is concerned my understanding is that the studio that hired Tezuka to create Jetter Mars specifically asked for a series that was as close to Astro Boy as possible and Tezuka complied with a character that was created for a younger target audience than Astro Boy.

:) Thanks for providing some clarification here, ASTROBUDDY. I may have read something along the lines of what you wrote, but couldn't recall anymore the exact circumstances.

Though these "full color" panels are rare, they do make brown eyes very clear. Most colored pages have at most 3 or 4 colors, & various shades of them. :p I believe this is a reproduction of a title page that was published in SHONEN, which featured many other comics in each issue.
