Osamu Tezuka and Mauricio de Sousa

Postby Hikari Tail » 12 years ago

As everyone here knows from the other Thread of the comic crossover with the Brazilian comic Monica

I found some interesting stuff that I wanted to show.

These two were friends. Osamu is known as the Disney of Japan while Mauricio is known as the Disney in Brazil.Mauricio was a huge fan of Tezuka's work and both of them had plans to make a Crossover animation movie with their characters. However after weeks Tezuka passed away and as everyone knows Mauricio kept his promise to his friend.

This is one of my favorite drawings of Mauricio as response to hear Tezuka's sudden death.

I noticed the similarities ever since I've discovered of Astro Boy and other Tezuka works. Being born in Brazil, I've grown up reading Mauricio De Sousa's comics, so I'd consider him to this day one of the greatest influences in my interest in art.

Around the time when I was about 4 or 5 years old, Mr. De Sousa was nice enough to come by the school I attended in Sao Paulo to sign Monica comics and merchandise for all the kids. I was lucky enough to be one of the hundreds standing in line. He signed my comic and now it is my most treasured item. I hope I can get to meet him again someday.
Growing up can be difficult when you still walk in the shoes of a kid, and one of the hardest things to accept and come to terms with...

But in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you like everyone else, the greatest privileges are young ideas. Hold on to them regardless of what you are told - for even though time stops for no one, those are what define what you can see and others can't.
