.... Would we even WANT 4kids to dub it? Also when 4kids WAS in existence it didn't get the dubbing rights nor did it seem to have any interest.

If a new anime was created and if America did have a high interest in bringing it over there are many different dubbing studios that would fit it just fine, filled with plenty of talented voice actors.

I would LOVE to see what Gendy would do with Astro Boy. I love his work and his animation philosophy.

There are some production studios that are willing to take a risk on going against the rules of conformity, which is what we need. Actually, if Astro were viewed as more of an 'adult swim' kind of product rather than a kid's show (so it would appeal to older, long term fans of the anime, and today's teens) the show wouldn't need to undergo the butcher job that it has in the past to cross the Pacific.

Think of "South Park", no I'm not suggesting to make Astro rancid like that show is, but those guys aren't afraid of stepping on any sacred cows (LITERALLY!).

If there ever is one....I hope that I'll take part in drawing it by then.

I plan to be a manga artist someday and hopefully Tezuka Productions might notice me by then.......heh heh heh X3
I joined this forum in late 2013 when I was 15 going on 16. Ignore my oldest posts, they embarrass me so much that I've considered permanantly leaving the forum more than once. I've grown out of my fangirling phase over Black Jack, Atom and Uran ages ago but the memories still embarrass me at times... Though, I try to be more open-minded about it and accept it as an "interesting stage of my life". :tezuka:

I'd love to know what what planning for the movie, just to see what kind of potential anything Astro Boy has from him. Though this being Tartakovsky, I trust it will be good.

Well I don't think he's ever produced or conceptualized anything that I personally would call BAD. I trust that he would indeed make it something incredibly unique but respectful of the original. The writers he had with Samurai Jack would be my pick, they had such a golden way to make something serious while still filtering in humor, the perfect combination for Astro Boy.

I would definitely agree with that.

I have no problem with any story team sticking to the source material, but would think that part of the purpose of international versions of Astro Boy is for the creative teams to do their own thing with it. And in retrospect, I'm more excited about seeing what people will do with the source material while still keeping the characters and the setting mostly the same. We already know it can be done with Astro, so why not see what other people can do with it? Especially since there are still plenty of talented people working in the American animation industry today.

-_-... Earthshine, I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but I am taking offense to this very much.

Actually, 4kids were a very popular kids station and some of they're shows (Like Mew Mew Power and Pokemon for ex.) were the highest rated kids shows on the network. Oh, and 4kids & Funimation are the same companies btw.

I've never heard of a 4kids station.

They had nothing to do with the development of the shows you mentioned, just localized them into English, and a different company might have done a better job, you can't tell for sure. Any company would have done better than what they did to One Piece, Yu-gi-oh and Sonic X, that's for sure.

And 4kids & Funimation are NOT the same company. In fact, Funimation took and saved One Piece from 4kids's butchering hands.

Funimation and 4kids the same?

No I've never heard of that. Funimation has always been Funimation (albeit with some differences such as Funimation Productions to Funimation Entertainment).

If I remember correctly Funimation started out in the mid 90s in Texas as just a little dubbing shack but then grew and grew into what it is now - a multimillion dollar entertainment company with multiple sites and hundreds of talented actors and RESPECTFUL writers that took into consideration what the targeted age was for each show and edited appropriately. So instead of trying to make a PG13 show into a Y rated show through hack and slash of editing (such as what 4kids did on routine basis, sad to say) they would try their best to keep things in their original form.

4kids I'm afraid did not do this. If you thought that the English dub and editing of the Astro Boy series was bad then with 4kids it would have probably turned out even worse. But of course there is no real way to know that for sure, but the evidence points to that.

Sorry. :(

Well, maybe I should have made this clearer. They really aren't the same, but they work together sometimes. I'm sure of this cause I remember watching Sonic X on tape a long time ago when I was about 8 or 9, and I remember seeing the funimation logo pop up on it. ;)

Also, I've seen the funimation logo on other kids shows such as Spider Riders. It also appeared on the bottom of Sonic X pictures and tapes If I remember correctly.

I like 4kids cause they work really hard and try they're best to make music for the english dubs and sometimes even make english names for some of the characters. (And that's a hard thing to do.) That's why I show respect for them. Yes, yes. :) !
