I  :astro: :) [/QUOTE] Yes that is what Fred Ladd renamed her in the English Dub. Perhaps not one of the better choices he made in that production.

Not authentic . . . but, back in 1964, if I had heard of a girl named "Uran" - well, we all made fun of "Uranus" . . . so I completely understand why Ladd felt (in those days) she needed a different name.

And . . . we had Astro Boy . . . so . . . Astro Girl isn't a huge leap of the imagination :p . But yeah, Uran has been around since way back when!

FYI - the 1960 English dub anime Astro seems to call her "Sis" most of the time. ;)

IIRC Astro did call her 'Sis instead of Astro Girl. Uran probably used that name herself more than anyone else. I agree, it's too easy to forget the mentality of that era. How things change, and words shift in and out of favor and meaning. (Not meaning to belittle anybody, but look what happened to the word 'Gay'. Or Hacker for that matter. But I digress.......).

I think we can thank the Internet for making all of us more comfortable with names and words that - in another time - would have been off-putting :D

One thing I'd like to know is where Ladd came up with "Jetto" for Cobalt  But that's for another thread!

We still don't know where these images came from though . . . looks like they are from a book...

Yes, AprilSeven the images are from a "book". (Guess you missed my answer in a previous post.)

As for the name issue, if I may there is a scene in my favorite Disney movie, "Lady and the Tramp", when Tramp explains to Lady how he is known by different names to different humans.

To me she is both Astro Girl and Uran or in one country (I can't remember which) she is Urania. All valid names for Astro Boy's sister. (Or should I start quoting Shakespeare?)

As re: the second ending, I think the first image is from AB episode# 58, "Dinosaur Dilemma" and the second image could be from AB episode# 51, "Jimbo, the Great". The interesting last image has been used to advertise the DVD boxed collection and appears as part of the artwork on the boxes themselves!

The English dub made in the USA only has the first opening and the first ending for all 104 episodes adapted. The others are form the Japanese original.

I believe the first opening was used for the first 52 episodes (japanese order).
The second opening for the next Japnese 52. The third ending for the last two years or seasons.
