This is another 'lost' episode (I have already made a thread for
139, Atom Stolen (--, --)) in that the video has been all but lost. What remains is a few scattered cels stitched together with a large quantity of crudely drawn sketches.
Image
As far as I can tell, it was just revealed that in India, a highly contagious disease that has very serious effects has been discovered.

Image

Image
I believe this guy's name is 'Cha'; though I doubt I spelled it correctly. It seems that he is involved with creating inoculations or cures for diseases.

Image
Occasionally these text frames appear.

Image
I do not recall how this image is relevant, though I am sure it is. :p

Image
Umi is Cha's assistant, & probably a nurse.

In 1965, this was a futuristic style telephone.

Those who have seen 57, Robot School (37, Astroboy goes to School), may recall that he was scrubbed by brushes, as he was preparing for school. yet, now, he must scrub himself. :hyo:

Atom will accompany Umi to the afflicted villages, and, I assume, act as her bodyguard. Umi will administer the medicine.

Image

Image
I have no idea why this guy wants to stop Atom & Umi.

These images I include not to present the story, so much as to give an idea of the sights of the place. -- edit: this one is relevant!

This is the local medical center:

Somebody ripped off our stuff!

These next three images show the occasional animation, crude though it it:

The Atom figure slides across the static image.

This guy is apparently the elder of the afflicted village; as far as I can tell, he fears losing face if these foreigners come in and distribute medicine among the backward villagers.

I can assure you, that copping a feel is the last thing on Atom's mind. :d evil:

Hah, Cobalt and Uran are watching TV (is that W3?), then whip around as their half-washed brother gets dragged out the door!

Edit: Ohwow, that needle is big. O-o;

WOW!! I remember that phone . . . the Ericofon! :w00t:

Jeffbert do you know if Tezuka draw these storyboards? There is so much fluidity of movement and expression.

Atom grabbing that woman!! OMG that is incredibly funny!

Robot or not . . . he's still a GUY!!! :whistling:  :p

:astro: - heh, heh, heh. Didn't see her complainin' didcha?

Thanks are in order again to you, Jeffbert, for posting another of the 89 on this website. How many episodes are there that have lost footage like this one?

I  :astro: :)

I love seeing the incomplete frames. For some reason I just really enjoy seeing the process of animation before it's finished, and those were some nice sketches. It's strange how great the finished work always looks compaired to the original sketches, even in such an old show. Very interesting :)

I'm a little confused about the last part though...

I wonder if the animators realized what it looked like Atom was doing to that poor woman.

 I had not even noticed Bokko & Nokko, but there they are! Though I did just auto-balance the images before uploading them; the contrast was rather low. Still, I make no excuses, Little Brown Fox.

These are not storyboards, I believe there are some in the extras for certain discs, though. I would not attribute fluidity to these, why do you think so, AprilSeven?

I think there are the two already mentioned, & another that has no video at all, ASTROBUDDY. Yes, #127, Experimental Robot has nothing but audio.

Thanks Jeffbert! Those were a lot of fun to look through. I especially liked the Star of Africa one. It's so cute how they made the characters interact with their animators and voice actors :)
It's not often you see something like that.

Not anymore, anyways.
