This is the most realistically drawn hand I have seen in this series.

Or, are these?

The man from the time machine is an artificial man.

Atom & Ochanomizu have used the refugee's time machine, but had gone backward rather than forward in time:
Image

Image
I am just guessing, but I think this guy is the real Miyamoto Musashi; not the Tezuka actor named after him (#7 in the Space Patrol of the color episode).

Image
Back in the time machine, Atom & Ochanomizu travel toward the future. The visualization of the time travel includes the same type of imagery as was used in the G. Pal version of THE TIME MACHINE.

After the scenes of trees adding leaves in Spring then shedding them in the Fall as the years pass, the scenes become grim, as war & destruction are depicted. Civilizations rise then fall as the bombs drop:

Death & misery are the main events.

Ochanomizu frantically attempts to learn the controls' functions:

Finally reaching the right time, Ochanomizu will soon regret the trip.

:D What a tantrum; and from a grown man, at that! All because he assumes he will spend the rest of his life in this dismal place in time. :p

This is the leader of the Robots, Jijiru. For centuries the artificial men and the robots have been at war with each other.

Continuing the story:

Now the artificial men take Atom & Ochanomizu into their headquarters:

The origin of the synthetic men:

Thus ends the history of the synthetic men. This is one of only a few episodes that has stumped me. As far as I can understand, the disagreement between the robots & the synthetic men centers on men's destructive tendencies. Such environmental issues as were depicted in the time-travelling sequences in my 1st post would be my best guess. The synthetic men had the same warring nature as the humans who created them. Hence, the image above this text.

Now the robots launch their final attack:

Do not mistake this flag of truce for a flag of surrender!

Now the synthetic men have surrendered. :hyo:

I think this guy was disguised as a robot, but it tore.

Have you figured out the resolution to this story? Ie how do Atom and Dr. O. get back home? Also who refueled who in the shot with atom's chest panel open?

I love how Dr. Ochanomizu's nose randomly falls off. I think I'm going to have nightmares about that chicken...

Atom refueled the other robot. In the end, the opposing forces reached a truce. There were more than a few of those time machines; though not shown, Atom & Ochanomizu used one of them to return to their own time.
