Anyone ever hear of MINORITY REPORT? Here is the Mighty Atom version:
I should save that tidbit for my book, but tough.

Image
There is something in this image that I have rarely seen anywhere else. Care to guess what it is? :p

"Robots will rebel against humans tomorrow."

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image
:tezuka: is not the only familiar face here, the guy in the derby was running the HOUSE OF HORRORS in 62, Phantom Ship (17, The Haunted Ship). He also owned the large estate in Melmo's adventure in 17, All Alone in the Jungle.

Image

Image

Image

Image
This is Dr. Muder, who claims that he has just returned from time-travelling to tomorrow, where/when he witnessed a robot rebellion. His claim has already begun a panic among the public. In the 2003 series, the assumption that all the GP3 robots were dangerous based upon the claim that one had thrown General Red's daughter down the stairs caused an all-out fear and hatred of robots.

Image
Is Ochanimizu expecting a bribe? :D

Image

Image
There is a sequnce in which Ochanomizu, precariously balanced on the arm of the chair, attempts to learn why Muder had fainted. :p

Image

Image

Image
There is a cute loop of Atom protesting the unfairness of being judged for something he had not even done.

Image
Muder has a fixation on buttons.

Image
This episode has what, to me, must be the most extensive cloud of dust fight sequence I have seen in the series. Usually, there would be at most, 10 frames that are repeated N times. But here, there are many more, & the sequence continues for about 20 seconds. :p There are around 8 frames with these two guys swirling around, tipping their hats.

Image

Image

While all this violence was under way, others were dedicating a statue to human-robot relations:
Image

Image

Image

Image
The tank had just blasted the statue, which was falling, and about to squash the man.

Image

Image
I think the one at upper left may be the duck we saw in an earlier episode, but without finding that other image, I just cannot tell.

Anyway, the scientists, politicians, & such, are not simply believing Muder's claim of a rebellion.

Image
Throughout the episode, Muder has been wiggling his fingers, as though he were exercising some supernatural power thereby.

Whoa! I haven't watched this one yet (I enjoy watching them AFTER you review them, Jeffbert!). This looks like a hum-dinger!

Is it possible that Spielberg somehow saw this episode and got the idea for the movie? Or was Tezuka simply ahead of his time? Gosh the guy was almost like Bradbury!

That guy totally looks like a creeper in those shots with the nurse/secretary lady-person. (Idk what she does, don't look at me...)

@Jeffbert. When you finish off this review, you might note in the screen shots that "Bigshot" Cannon/Colt, Atlas, and Cobalt all have cameo's in this episode. You'll have to look close to find Atlas and Colt as they are in only one cel.
(Colt is at 18:15 and Atlas at 18:48.)

Boy that guy with the twitchy hand is a real nut job. This story has some similarities with the Blue Knight too.

Yes, there are some common themes between this & the Blue Knight; yet, these episodes are examples of the tyranny stories, of which there are quite a few. :d evil:

I believe that the guy (already forgot his name :blush :) is influencing this machine, that must be a polygraph, or something of similar function.

Image

Image
"They haven't built a prison that can hold me!"

Image

Image

Image

This is chilling, reminiscent of Nazi Germany:
Image

Image
I had to omit much, because I really regret posting so many images. But there followed a rumble in this house.

Image

Image

Image
How they got this fortress, I can not even begin to guess.

Image
Anyone who opposes Muder's radical course of action will be imprisoned.

Colt's appearance is very brief; I think this is it. I know this "XX" robot is familiar, but I cannot place him.

Image
The one one the left originated in 055, Rejuvenating Gas, the one in the middle seems familiar, but as in the last image, I cannot place him.

Image
Other than Atlas, the big one is from an earlier episode in which many of that type assaulted the good guys. The two left of Atlas may have originated in ROBOT LAND, or some other episode with robot peasants; yet, they are too plain to resonate.

Image
Offhand, I think this is Cobalt's only screen time.

Image
 I wonder if this was a mistake or intentional. :D

Image
Somebody broke Ochanomizu out of jail, & he is about to check on the truth of Muder's claim.

Image

Image
I assume that button would have made an end of the robots.

Image
I am just guessing, but I think these are the nice guys in the white coats who will take Muder to the nut house. :p

Ha! I think that is a Tezuka tribute to M.C. Escher!
There was one more place where Cobalt appeared toward the very end.

Hmm, Cobalt looked almost human in that scene... and so old, too; he looked like he could be in his mid-to-late teens, even! And he's dressed, which is an unusual occurrence.

This episode illustrates the difficulty Ladd & his staff had adapting the later episodes that were adapted for US TV. There is too much in this episode that probably would not have made it passed US censors for children's programming back in the sixties.

Thanks Jeffbert again for posting another of the 89!

I  :astro: :)

You are quite welcome, ASTROBUDDY.
