ImageImagine that this image is distorted by heat waves rising.

Image

Image

ImageAs near as I could tell, this guy's name is 'Omra'; comments from Strangewings & Astrobuddy will be appreciated.

Image

ImageI include this one because the 1/2 closed eyes are cute. But, the story is that a planet is approaching Earth, & its gravity is messing with Earth.

ImageSkipping ahead, Atom & the man land on the planet, only to discover that it is artificial. :p Years before Lucas thought of a Death Star.

ImageAfter traveling down a long elevator shaft, past many floors of mechanical complexity, they arrive in the habitable area, & find exhibits of Earth culture.

Image

Image

Image

ImageHearing a noise, the man shows his true nature: he is a coward.

ImageI thought from the episode's title that this alien would be named 'Gypsy,' but I heard 'Kipia-san' mentioned several times, so, while the synopsis says that Kipia is the planet's name, it appears the character bears that name.

ImageAs near as I can tell, this guy is plotting something evil.

Here are some weird robots:

Image

Image

ImageThe evil glint in his eye confirms my suspicion. Episode 38, Disturbed Small Planet (38, The Asteroid Menace) also features a crew out to perform an important mission, but in that one at least two of the crew were overcome by greed. I made an analysis page for that one, which is somewhere on T in E, but as the site was redone, my links are no longer valid. :p Yet, I admit I really do not know this guy's motivation.

Image

ImageAtom caught the guy where he ought not to have gone, much less at night when the hostess was asleep.

Image

Image

ImageKipia, hearing the commotion, comes to investigate. Omra persuades her the he caught Atom, up to no good.

Image

ImageShe traps Atom inside a bubble, to keep him from supposed evil.

More to come--

Tezuka seems to like drawing characters with wild hair and cowlicks! (Well not QUITE as wild as Yu-gi-oh, but maybe he started the trend?

It seems that Kipia has piloted her planet into a collision--

Actually in that last scene I think atom is now in a ship with the weird guy from the MOS heading back to earth.

Atom's flight in ship through the defenses of the death planet does resemble the same scene from Star wars. However Tezuka was not being clairvoyant here, both he and Lucas got the idea from the same film, "The Dam Busters".

Images like the ones above male me ask the question, if we sent TRSI, Tezuka Pro.; and whomever else is involved with the video distribution rights for "Astro Boy" a petition requesting the release of the "89" in a special sub-titled collector's set, that maybe they would see that there is a market for it and release it?

Until such a day that that happens, let's all praise Jeffbert and thank him again for his efforts in bringing them to us in this way!

I  :astro: :D
