20, Eternal Boy

Yeah, I know, it should be 'children' instead of 'boy,' but tough! :D

Disney changed Peter Pan from the youngest of the Lost Boys, who as I recall had "all his 1st teeth" to the oldest; I suppose it was to add some romance between him & Wendy. Anyway, the whole idea seemed to be a reversal of the situation between large & little people. Somewhat like one of those RALPH PHILLIPS the daydreamer cartoons, in which the boy imagines himself as dominant & his parents as asking permission & him denying it.

Image
Comparing these characters to those in my PETER PAN folder, the little boy is John, the big one is Michael.

Image
Is this Mimi, of the ROBOT FARM?

Image

Image
Note the 4 layer animation: foreground Ochanomizu's fingers & the cap, beyond that, the noggin, then the other side of the cap, finally, the background. I had expected a $ saving two or three layer technique. :p

Image

This, I find strange:

:o hmy: Same Kenichi, different race!? :hyo:

Melmo?

Inspired by Spaceport R-45?

What's with the Victorian Nightgowns? Were they participating in the PBS 1900 House? :D

Is this Musashi?

Image

Image

Here is Miyamato Musashi as Shichiro / #7 in 1963 #56:
Image
I think the hair is sufficiently similar to say yes, Tommy is portrayed by Musashi.

Image

Image
Maybe the rights to Peter Pan had nothing to do with this episode being excluded; perhaps Leiji Matsumoto may have objected to similarities to Harlock?

This reminds me of the Three Stooges! :w00t:

So, here is Captain Hook (James Darling) taken aback upon learning that these two have no desire to remain as they are forever.

The text may be difficult to read, as PB resized these images to keep them 640 pixels wide, they were about 850 wide.

To be continued.

I've only seen this episode off of a bootleg DVD uploaded to a Chinese "Youtube" site with lots of compression and "chinglish" subtitles. Thank's this is great!

That shot from '63 #56 looks very good too. I assume that's one of the "Extras" on the RS DVD's. Why didn't Manga put THAT version of the episode up on youtube, they clearly had the rights to use the RS DVD's when they uploaded the entire '63 series. (Ditto for ep # 193).

I can think of a few ways that "4 layer" shot could have been done in 3, but would have resulted in a few "throw away" non-reuseable cels.

BTW, did one shot have a few members of Reno's robot circus family in it?

I do not recall seeing members of Reno's robot circus family.

I have the RS' subbed version, but that image is from the Japanese set.

They look similar anyway.

I see a vague resemblance, but not much.

This episode was really cute. I wish they kept the stuff they cut out.

Aha! so the specs are why neither of these two kids were affected by the fairy dust. --err, except as far as flying goes.

If they can make a robotic dragonfly, they should be able to make a robotic fairy of about the same size.

Image
I think I may have neglected to mention that this girl is named 'Lilly' or is it 'Lili'? or 'Riri'?

My mom just had cataracts surgery, & no longer need glasses for nearsightedness. I am so jealous! :d evil:

'Atomu!'

Image

Lilly is now on the escalator to permanent prepubescence -- err-- maybe non-pubescence should be a better term.

A while ago, I was googling cults or was it Utopian societies, & found one whose goal was to do just this. Kids should not grow up! :shifty: I think they were actually trying to create a drug that would prevent maturation. :p

Image

Image
As is the case when Snidely Whiplash puts Nell on the log that is being cut by the circular saw, so too here: the process must be slow, building the tension. Will Dudly Doright arrive in time? :p This would have worked great with Powerhouse B

Image

Image
Why does Hook/Darling have a laser in his hook? :p He loves kids, he had no idea that this would happen. It is like why Ross Martin's title character in THE COLOSSUS OF NEW YORK had lasers in his eyes. He was a humanitarian; he died, his brother put his brain in the COLOSSUS' body, he went psycho, & used the laser eyes. Why were they even there? :p

Image
I had to omit the action images, but there were a few good ones.

Darling's hat falls off, his wig also, then, he even drops his hook! It is over, he has lost.

Ha! I remember the sudden race change scene for Ken, I remember joking about it years ago.

Ahh... animation flubs are funny.

Overall it was a great episode and I was really sad to know that the American version was cut out.
