Thanks for that. I never saw those pages before. Pity the version Dark Horse translated cut it. Kinda makes you wonder what else we're missing :/

The later versions of the stories that were to fit in 23 volumes of pocket-sized books omitted a ton of stuff! Some stories had 20% of their panels cut.

Were they cut by darkhorse or by a Japanese publisher? I know that the dh collection was based on a Japanese one.

I believe Tezuka himself cut away parts of the stories so they could be fit in a certain number of pages. Anyway, yes, I have reprints of the original comics & a few volumes of the KAPPA reprints, the latter are nearly identical in content to the Dark Horse comics.

That sounds about right. Dark Horse translated a particular re-release of the manga from the 70s I believe and states clearly they didn't cut anything.

I think DH translated the Akita Shonen version; Fred Schodt mentioned it in his book Astro Boy Essays.

No, that apparently was the version that DH (Fred Schodt) translated.
