Found a pretty nice-looking rare Japanese pop-up book from 1976 being sold on Ebay for US $228. It looks like it's still in excellent condition and has all 12 pages intact:

EDIT 2: Also found a flyer for a 1976 Astro Boy movie entitled "Earth Defense Force", or "Chikyu Boueigun" in Japanese. I've never heard of this movie and can't find any information about it on Google.

That 76 Astro movie is an interesting find.

I wonder if I could get a functional Astro Boy-shaped cell phone. That'd be hilarious.

I think that "Earth Defense Force" movie is the one colour special that was released in Japan. It's become somewhat rare now, but only because the DVDs it was put out on are super expensive.



This isn't official merchandise, but it's an edit from 2010 by a Mexican Zazzle shop called Chido Clothing Company. I actually own this button myself.

That's "Afro Boy"! Didn't know they made a button of that, I thought it was someone's attempt at humor on Deviant Art.

The design is available on shirts and posters, too, like with other mass production shops like Redbubble. I'd link to their Zazzle page but I'm not sure I should publicly advocate bootlegs.

(Their original actually inspired me to do another racebent edit of the Astro kids. I may post them in another thread.)

I just now noticed that that is his hair! I assumed bit was in the background, until taking a 2nd look.
