Just in case you didn't know this, the world's longest suspension bridge, with a main span of 1991 meters, is the Akashi Kaikyō Bridge (明石海峡大橋 ), which links the city of Kobe on the Japanese mainland of Honshu to Iwaya on Awaji Island. It crosses the busy Akashi Strait (Akashi Kaikyō in Japanese) as part of the Honshu–Shikoku Highway. It was completed in 1998. The toll to cross the bridge (not sure this is current) is 2300 Yen.
The bridge had been planned to have a center span of 1990 meters, but during construction an earthquake moved the two towers an extra meter apart! The bridge was designed to withstand earthquakes up to magnitude 8.5.
