tHANKS, but I just want something that plugs into the SATA connector. I know this will affect performance, but it will still be much better than it currently is.

My reason is, even if the bios supports it (Last flashed summer of 2019), there will be two parts, both of which must work properly, & I prefer only the one.

Thanks very much for the help!

Then use ANY of the ones you posted the link to. ALL SATA connected SSD's will work with your computer, just base your choice on desired size and budget cost. Be aware that due to flash memory chip projected shortages, prices are rising quickly so buy sooner than later!

My stuff came on Friday; I already installed the RAM, & have not seen the unresponsive problems since. I have many tabs on any browser I may be using, & perhaps they were the problem. Now, my gadget RAM meter has not gone past 1/2way, even with three browsers open, and about 80 pages between them. Previously, the meter would be just shy of its red line.

Assuming this solves the program not responding problem, I would likely just upgrade install W10. I know there is a way to xfer the thing on to a SSD, but that can wait.

Thanks for all your help, guys!

I have seen some scary things on C-net, people who upgraded to w10, and are very unhappy about it. So, as it is, my SSD is just sitting there, gathering dust.

I tried to upgrade my laptop 1st, and it even came with w10 recovery discs & a boot disc. So, put in the boot disc, waited a while, then it says something about a page error in a non-page area, and would go no further.

I guess I will just keep my NORTON stuff up to date, and leave it at that, for now.

Try downloading the latest W10 install ISO file and copy it to a USB flash drive. Set your laptop to boot from the USB stick (usually hit F12 several times while it's powering up, then select the boot device when it offers a menu, USB stick must be plugged in first!)
When windows asks for your ID number, use the one that came with the recovery disk. The generic install ISO might not have some of the drivers for your laptop, but you can mount the recovery disk later and copy them off of that.

I have that on a flash drive, but, I thought I still needed a boot disc.

Only need a boot disk if your computer can't boot from a USB flash drive.

I still hesitate-- and just now, another w10 'upgrade' nightmare occurs. BSOD! I know eventually I must upgrade, or use Linux, about which I know nothing.

So, will it allow partitioning & formatting?

I am getting desperate! My W7 works fine, but my scanner software is not. It does not allow me to choose any settings when I click the icon for scanning to a file. It just scans immediately. Maybe BROTHER insists on upgrading to W10?

So, I am really thinking about that, so I can scan the newly acquired stuff!
