ETHERNET TROUBLE

Yesterday, my PC stopped its Ethernet reception. The modem was sending wifi to the laptop, but the Ethernet was intermittent, at best. I thought it was the modem, so, I swapped in a new one, fresh from COMCAST. It worked, but only briefly. swapped the cat 6 for a cat 5e, worked, but only briefly. Performed a system restore, same result. Finally, I undid the restore, & it has been working fine, since then. Even streaming HD video.

I had been suspecting the onboard Ethernet port might be the problem. So far, as far as I know, the cable has not been jiggled, since I undid the restore.

I am expecting it will fail tomorrow. Any suggestions?

Do you have other devices that use Wifi (smart phone, TV, etc), and if so, do they work when the PC doesn't? Do you have both a laptop and a desktop, and what is connected with wifi and what with ethernet?
I've had issues with my DSL modem 'dropping out' and not reconnecting (you can tell that from the lights on the modem usually). A reboot of the router fixes that most of the time (power cycle, or press the reset button in the back).
