I am looking at 32 & 64 MB caches, but wondering if my 5 - 6 year - old PC is fully compatible?

So long as the interface is compatible (ie: SATA), then no problems. The cache is an internal buffer in the hdd that is faster to read and write than the disk itself. If your computer can't keep up with the fastest speed possible on the interface (ie: doesn't support the faster, but backward compatible interface standards such as SATA-3) you won't get the full speed advantage of the newer disks, but won't be any slower than you are now.

tHANKS! i THOUGHT THINGS WOULD BE BACKWARD COMPATIBLE, but the WD 64MB cache one had some rather unexpected things.
