I thought I already responded to this post, It seems there is no official DVD release for Tex Avery (the director), but there are 4 VHS tapes:

Maybe because black people in it are depicted as caricatural? But of course, coming from Tex Avery, they are not worse than other characters from other cartoons :p

But that's my point. White people are given the same treatment. Cartooned as it were. O well... I thought it was OK. and I enjoyed it. and was not offended in anyway.

Despite the many unflattering caricatures of famous people, White people are depicted in caricature as individuals, while blacks and others who are disrespected are depicted as a race. Anyone who has seen the Private SNAFU cartoons has seen cruel caricatures of German, Italian, & Japanese people. I have seen caricatures of Irish people that resembled apes.

Political cartoons were & to a lesser extent are prime examples. I was into WWII history before I found anime, & bought a copy of Dr. Suess goes to war. The face you would recognise as the Grinch was first used in one such cartoon; however, the book is full of unflattering depictions of Axis peoples.

But, getting back to toons, I just read this:

Blacker Than Coal?

It is all about Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs, & gives a fairly good discussion about it. It was made with cooperation & voice talent of the black community, that apparently saw nothing offensive about it.

Anyway, I saw a program that said that we so easily recognise the individuals thus depicted because our brains might store memories of faces with exaggerated features. :whistling:

I agree with the statement..."...the film is a cartoon masterpiece, a cultural tour de force of 1940's America, and a vital example of how animation is often able to capture a nation's social nuances in ways that live-action films can never hope to..."
Will all black fairy tales and cultural imagination of a fantasy nature be expunged to be replaced by thugism? Leave some magic.

I was watching the others on the scrollbar, & am now about to watch Tex Avery Bad Luck Blackie Cartoon. They are all quite funny. But why is Red Hot RH on this scroll?

Red hot riding hood was and remains, a classic.
Red Hot Riding Hood
review and synopsis from Wikipedia

It is rarely shown and in todays PC climate hilarious. There are plenty of reviews online speaking volumes, I will not remark on it here. Anyone who wishes may watch it for themselves.
