O well... I thought it was OK. and I enjoyed it. and was not offended in anyway.
Despite the many unflattering caricatures of famous people, White people are depicted in caricature as
individuals, while blacks and others who are disrespected are depicted as a
race. Anyone who has seen the Private SNAFU cartoons has seen cruel caricatures of German, Italian, & Japanese people. I have seen caricatures of Irish people that resembled apes.
Political cartoons
were & to a lesser extent
are prime examples. I was into WWII history before I found anime, & bought a copy of Dr. Suess goes to war. The face you would recognise as the Grinch was first used in one such cartoon; however, the book is full of unflattering depictions of Axis peoples.
But, getting back to toons, I just read this:
Blacker Than Coal?
It is all about
Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs, & gives a fairly good discussion about it. It was made with cooperation & voice talent of the black community, that apparently saw nothing offensive about it.
Anyway, I saw a program that said that we so easily recognise the individuals thus depicted because our brains might store memories of faces with exaggerated features.
