In the last episode, the King finally made a law allowing women to inherit the throne. However, Duke Duralumin learned of the law, and threw the declaration into the fireplce, and he secretly abducted and imprisoned the King & Queen. Duke Duralumin thus forces the coronation of Sapphire, whom he knows to be a girl.

He then accuses and proves her a girl, which not only voids her claim to the throne, but is a crime under the old law. That is, to pose a female as a male heir to the throne is the crime.

The jailor is a jerk, & demands all their valuables in exchange for the very basics: beds, food, etc.

:D  :whistling: There seems to be some inconsistency in the depiction of Sapphire; here, she is depicted as a very young teenage girl. When she dons her costume, she seem much larger.

The Jailor does not like sharing his meal with rodents

Image
He intends to kill the poor little critters, despite their plead for mercy. Are these mice or rats? Mice have furry tails, while rats have naked tails.
The Laboratory Rodents indicates that these are indeed rats, as indicated by their tails. Do the Japanese hold rats in the same low esteem as Westerners?

Image
Sapphire defends them

Image
The rodents now begin to show their gratitude

Image
But what is this paper that they used as a placemat?

Image
This document orders the jailor to to stand by while assassins murder his prisoners

Image
The rodent's gratitude has yet to end, as they show Sapphire a secret passage

Image
It is nearly the end of the 1st season, & only now, Ribbon no Kishi makes her first appearance. Where the mice got the costume, who could know? :whistling:

Thus, begins Sapphire's battle to find & free her parents, overthrow the Duke, & of course, keep Mephisto from taking her boy's heart.

I've put your name on my buddy list Jeffbert. Is that a step in the right direction? :) :D

EDIT :O oh. Thank you Jeffbert. Those 20 pictures are beautiful.
So this is where the Phantom Knight identity of the Princess first appears?
I understand that Ribbon No Kishi basically translates as A Knight In Ribbons or something like that.

A Knight in Ribbons, I think that is correct.
