Recently, at the shopping mall

Postby Strange Wings » 15 years ago

A funny situation headed for me last friday as I strolled through our locality's shopping center doing my weekly purchases. I went by at a female seller who presented some new products next to the cookie stand. Me walking by at her, she friendly accosted me: "Excuse me sir, do you own a cat?"
Me, not having listened well and thinking she's just promoting cookies of a new brand, just turned my head over to her and replied: "Oh sorry, no, I have dinner waiting for me."
I felt the female seller thinking "wtf", but it wasn't for less than 5 seconds until I noticed my mistake. :d oh:
I went back to her and apologized for my misunderstanding, and she continued with advertising some new delicious cat food (why they placed a stand like that next to the cookie shelves is beyond me).

Anyway, again she asked me: "Do you own a cat?"
I replied: "Not me, but my brother has one."
Since she finally was able to catch me listening to her I haven't had the heart anymore to decline her offer, and I went: "Well, maybe my brother would be glad getting a new treat for his companion."
She, happy for her selling success, replied: "Oh, fine then! How old is she?"
Me: "40 years."

Again, as I looked at the poor seller's "wtf" impression on her face I quickly corrected myself and reduced the cat's amount of years lived minus 32.
The seller went: "Oh well, in that case your brother's cat might be fine with this product especially developed for elderly felines, etc. etc..."

5 minutes later I left the shopping mall with a huge bag filled with food for elderly cats (wet & dry, er.. the food, not the cats) while I thought my brother might kill me for this. Thankfully, he obviously didn't; to my surprise he was rather pleased about this boon of cat nutrition.

If I ever may have an opportunity to air a suggestion for our shopping center: Please declare beforehand what kind of 'cat' you're targeting at; those having four legs, or those equipped with only two.
:D

I could really imagine you there... :p I could see this happening to me... :D

Even most funny, for some reason I was sure you did own a cat... The story really seemed strange!

Is your brother's cat really 8? I didn't know it was that old for a cat.

 No, I actually never owned one, but I used to take care of my mother's cat a few times when my mother went to alternative medical care for a couple of weeks. Her name was 'Ghana', alike the country in Afrika. She was such a cute kitty, she's up in cat heaven for already 2 years now.

It isn't that old indeed, considered that Ghana reached 14 1/2 years. Still, it's a quite decent age for a cat; in some way equal of 60 years for a human. :)

That might explain why... Either that or I'm just making things up! :p

Oh I see, I guess I was just surprised that it was so old that it was considered "elderly". And considering I have an extremely small finch that is 13 years old...

I hope the cat likes the new food, it would really be too weird otherwise!
