FanFiction author copying my story!?!?!?

Postby Androids101 » 12 years ago

I've posted a story a FanFiction.net. It is about a game show, and someone else apparently decided to do the same. This isn't suprising as the show is quite popular, but consider these facts in relation to mine:

- 6/10 contestants are the same. It doesn't seem like much, but when your franchise has hundreds of characters...

- The host is the same.

- One character is afraid to do a challenge, that character is the same.

- Other contestants try to get the character to jump, and start a chant, the chant is the same.

- There is a quiz. The format of the quiz is the same.

- 8/10 of the questions of the quiz is the same.

- Character opinions are the same.

- What the host says is the same.

- One of mine original ideas is the challenge updates, the person copied mine and that is the same.

You can call it inspiration, but...really, isn't that a bit too much? Most challenges are also blatantly ripped off from other stories.

Should I report this person?

I say yes you should Androids.

It's far too similar to your story to ignore it. Plagiarism is an insult to any author, even a fanfiction author.

Gotta agree with MightyAstro. There are far too many similarities for that author's story to be coincidentally the same.

I say go for it.

I'm not sure if you're able to report other authors that do that on fanfiction (well fanfiction.net) but I'd give it a go.

If anything I would try contacting them and asking if they could remove it. For all you know they could be a fan of your fic and just copied it because of that. I er, I had the same thing with my fanfic Love you yet, wah

I agree with the others. I hope they can do something, it has to be frustrating when you put your heart into something.

I've been plagiarized once or twice myself.... once by a commercial company. :shifty:

Yes, there is a function which lets you report blatant plagiarism. The person in question sent me a private message saying that s/he is sorry for the misunderstanding and such and such...but even if we are doing the same TV show, that is still a bit too much. I'm still debating wether to report this or not.

What company was it? If they have a website, it must have been a total shock...
