While it's the year that marks the 50 year anniversary of the Astro Boy anime being produced, today is the 50 year mark anniversary of Martin Luther King JR's "I Have a Dream" speech.

Puts a lot of things in perspective of what the world was like during the very broadcast of our beloved icon.

Does anyone here remember seeing/hearing the original broadcast of MLK JR's speech?

I remember it . . . or at least the broadcast news following it. He voice was so plaintive, and the wish was for something that should have been the easiest thing in the world - why was this man begging for peace like this?

Growing up in a tiny hamlet, we had one African American family, everyone got along fine, and I couldn't imagine people "hating" other people because they had a different skin color. The whole idea was really creepy to me, and yes, I remember making a connection between racism and what Astro was going through.

But I was lucky, because my mother (who lived in our village since she was 12) remembers the KKK burning crosses - but it was more against Catholics (which we were). As Astro would say, "When are we all going stop fighting each other?"

I remember crying when I heard he was killed (also the Kennedys). The 60's weren't all about love and peace! :(
