Two Tezuka Fans at my School~!

Postby Windswept Cloak » 10 years ago

I can't believe it! Up to yesterday I always thought that I was the only one in the whole school who reads Tezuka stuff. The girl in the class next to mine doesn't really count because she only reads them sometimes but isn't really "into" them.

But at the Tezuka section I kind of met two boys and they asked me if I was into Tezuka (they saw me reading Black Jack) and I said "sure", and we starting chatting about manga stuff and school and things. :)

I don't really hang out with people at school much even if they are "friends" but I find myself chatting with these two whenever I meet them. :D

Then I noticed that most of my real friends at school are guys. :shifty:

But that's okay, I'm not a girly person anyways and high school girls in my school are pretty shallow so I don't enjoy striking long conversations with them. There are twenty girls in my class and fifteen of them are like that. The others are okay I guess but I only talk to them sometimes.

Anyway, finally I have people at school to chat about :tezuka: and :astro: and talk about my feelings and thoughts to. Yay! :D

That and the lousy girl in my class isn't that rude anymore :)
I joined this forum in late 2013 when I was 15 going on 16. Ignore my oldest posts, they embarrass me so much that I've considered permanantly leaving the forum more than once. I've grown out of my fangirling phase over Black Jack, Atom and Uran ages ago but the memories still embarrass me at times... Though, I try to be more open-minded about it and accept it as an "interesting stage of my life". :tezuka:

The public library near me has a Manga section, but they call it "Graphic Novels" (and it includes crap from Marvel and DC).

Like it or not, mangas ARE graphic novels by definition. Mangas ARE comics. So of course in a Western library they are going to put them in with the other comics, that only makes sense. :shifty:

I think it's great that you found more fans! :D It rings true that if you look hard enough and have some luck you'll find others that are into the same things you are.

Yeah, manga just Japanese comics, so they are comics. :D

I have a Graphic Novel section at my School Library as well, but I don't visit it very often cause they have no Tezuka manga at all, and the mangas there are boring and dull. Also, the other graphic novels (like Marvel stuff) don't catch my interest. So, I'm not too much of a Graphic Novel fan at my school library, cause they don't have Tezuka manga there. Actually, No where do they have Tezuka Manga where I live. It just doesn't seem to exist over here.

I think I'm the only kid around here (especailly in my school) who shows interest in Tezuka and his works. I wonder what will happen if I ask a kid at my school who likes anime; "Do you show interest in Tezuka's works?" They'll probably be like "Tezuka? What's a Tezuka? Is it some sort of food?" Yeah, the kids in my school just like those annoying animes like Hetalia, One Piece, Bleach and Naruto. (No offense to anyone who likes these animes, btw.)

I'm more of a retro anime fan, if you know what I mean. ;)

It's always frustrating to me when anime fans don't know who Tezuka is. Really. It's like a fan of Baseball who doesn't know who Babe Ruth is, or a freedom fighter that doesn't know who MLK is. The concept is LOST on me.

I bet if you tried talking with these fans and explain to them who Tezuka is and his works they might actually find it's really great! Most anime fans I know at the very least are interested in Black Jack. There is usually at least ONE works of Tezuka that any person in existence might like.

True many of them might not be able to get into Astro Boy but there are plenty other works to choose from.

Just say to them that Tezuka is like Miyazaki but did more works than he did and influenced manga and anime more as well.

I know right? It annoys me a lot too. It's either that, or when you mention one of Tezuka's animes or mangas, they'll laugh at you and call you a loser or something like that. I find that kinda stupid, cause anime would probably never exist without Tezuka. (Or, probably just not that popular anywhere.)

Yeah, you may be right. But I don't like talking to people much, unless if I know them really well and trust them. (I'm shy, though I show it in a dark and shady way.) And a lot of people in the anime fandom, do like Black Jack. (especially females, though there are a few males out there who enjoy it as well.)

I think there may be some Osamu Tezuka fans out there nearby (maybe not in the school, cause I may be the only one. I think I'm the only one who's worn an Astro boy shirt to school ever.) where I live, they're probably just hiding and are afraid to pop out of their shell. (Like me for ex. I'm hiding from other people a bit, but I do show that I'm a Tezuka fan by drawing some fanart and wearing T-shirts with Tezuka's characters on them in public.)

Yep. Today I felt bored staring at dumb Taiwanese textbooks after school so I went there and read some ;)

As a matter of fact I don't let people know that I'm a Tezuka fan at school anymore because when I was in junior high school a girl kept laughing at me for reading Atomu mangas (she said those are out-of-date and not cool enough :shifty: well I think she's the one that reads stupid stuff. She likes reading manga that are not suitable for children if you know what I mean. O_O).

The two boys probably found me reading Black Jackbecause they saw the inside pages. I sort of hidden the manga behind another manga that's more popular so people wouldn't know what I was really reading.

The people in my class on the other hand either think anime is stupid or they like pretty shallow animations and cartoons. :shifty:

Me neither. But that's probably becuase I'm a very quiet person when I'm around strangers and people I don't know very well. I didn't know about Tezuka anime until Summer last year. (And back then, I was all over astro boy, but then I found out about Black Jack by seeing a picture of one of Tezuka's original artwork of it, and so I watched the first episode of the 2004 series on youtube, cause at the time, Tezuka anime had them up. After a while, my Astro hype slowly died down, and then I moved on to Black Jack. I'm still in my Black Jack craze and of course, I still love Astro boy!)

It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks about what you like. I love Tezuka's works becuase they have meaning to it. (Unlike other animes, but they're some out there that have meaning to them. Like Sailor Moon dealing about protecting the planets and the solar system and Tokyo Mew Mew about how animals on the verge of extinction and protecting them. Cyborg 009 has a meaning behind it as well.)

So, Kuo-Yi, Don't even hide the book and actually let other people that you are reading it. Even if they do make fun of you, it doesn't really matter cause its what you like and also shows that you're not afraid of showing your interest. And hey, you might even find some more friends if you don't try and hide your interest in Tezuka.

I show my interest in Tezuka cause I support it, and also, I'm the only one who likes Tezuka and his works at my school, so why not? I might even start making others like it. :D
