148 Robio and Robiette
148 Robio and Robiette
This police cruiser has a roof hatch; the 1st one I have seen.
After a heated argument about who is the better inventor, the two decide to build race cars, & let them be the deciding factors.
Notice how Robiette glimmers; In #19 MARS' 1ST LOVE, Agnes, while not exactly glimmering, she is radiant, & all the boys are nuts about her.
Surprise! Neither Robio nor Tybalt are involved in this race.
Among the spectators are Ringo & one of the other boys from 143, Bird Street Story (--, --).
More to come!

I believe little was changed in terms of plot when the story was remade for "Shin Tetsuan Atomu", but I do like how you point out how Tezuka used the same story elements in the different series especially "Jetter Mars" which he had very little to do with in terms of its production. But then again the animators for "Jetter Mars" may have also worked on the original "Astro Boy" series.

Robio, having briefly met Robiette, is smitten, & pursues her. Disregarding the danger her brothers present, he goes to her home, & climbs the ivy to the balcony.
Note the cleavage line; you will not see it often! :d evil:
Robiette, though smitten with love for Robio, begs him to leave, fearing her brothers' blood lust.
As though responding to a director's cue, Tybalt ('Chiballt') enters.
Kid brother Piro ought to know that this act should offend Robio, as though he needs the baby's help. Few people welcome interlopers' help.
Meanwhile, Atom, acting as another interloper, attempts to dissuade Ornery Ijio from his feuding ways.
When physical force fails to stop Atom, the electromagnetic field always works!
Just as Baribari reprogrammed Cleopatra to remove any tenderness or mercy she had, so Ijo now removes Robio's infatuation for (with?) Robiette.
Poor Robiette, she cannot understand why Robio does not even recognize her. hmy:
I have never read R & J, but I doubt this has a precedent therein.

Having dispensed with love, Robio now races Tybalt:
I do not know if Robio was depicted as cheating in either the manga or the 1980s version, but he seems to have little, if any reluctance here.
When will he learn from his previous experiences with electromagnetic fields? It took a while to get around to firing the heinie guns at the mechanism.
As I recall, Biggest Bo (or was it 'Beau'?) of #23, The Mutant (The Deadly Flies)also ended up in a billboard.
The rivalry continues escalating:
"Nokks'
'Temjin'
By now, papa Ijo's reprogramming has, for some unknown reason (as far as I can tell) come undone:
Fret not, because this was a Christmas episode:
A few clips borrowed from #52, Snow Lion.
"We have guests!"
So, it was all just play-acting!

Interesting! I see now that there were some changes in the remake.
Some of the images were down right beautiful. All in all a well done adaptation of "R & J".
For those who have never read the original, maybe you should catch "Franco Zefferelli's film version of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet" from 1968 as it is one of the best film adaptations of the play.
Thank you again Jeffbert for bringing us yet one more of the 89.
