134, Operation Escape
134, Operation Escape
In this story an evil nation that has certain similarities to the THIRD REICH has abducted Dr. Elite & his family & forced him to work for evil. Names are courtesy of Strange Wings, who has translated them from the booklet that accompanies the DVD boxed set.
エリート博士 / Erīto Hakase / Professor Elite & his daughter,
博士の娘スピカ / Supika / Spika.
Before Yankee Doodle Pigeon went against Dick Dastardly's Vulture Squadron, there was this robot messenger.
ダーク国レッド侯爵 / Dāku-koku reddo kōshaku / Red Marquis (Duke Red) of Dark Land. He mentioned no name for Heck Ben's character, but he is seen only briefly, anyway.
Just as Atom was about to depart on his mission,
Uran learns of it, & demands to go along.
I wonder what she said that makes Ochanomizu react this way. :d evil:
Recall that I mentioned a dragonfly robot in the DRAGONFLY 'ROBOT' thread. There are other robot insects that will come in handy on this mission.
ランプ将校 / Ranpu shōkō / Lamp, commissioned officer. Keep your eyes on him, as there is something strange happening with his character.
This shoe belongs to the professor's maid robot, whom I will introduce shortly.
'Mirrofirmu'
Now, for the robot maid: I do not believe it is chance that she has horizontal antennae for ears & that her name is 家政婦ロボ・ロージィ / Kasei-fu robo rōji~i / Rosie, the housemaid robot. I think somebody in Japan was aware of the Jetsons.
As I recall, Lamp had been put out of commission.
They will sleep for hours.
Oh, I forgot to mention that Dr. Elite has a fear of flying, so they must escape by surface travel.
So, Lamp was knocked out. But then, who was behind the door as Rosie went out?
The thing that Lamp kicks was standing by the window, in place of the Professor, & acting as his silhouette.

No name for Blacka (Mortimer Blacker) of Ghost Manufacturing Machine, either.
Now Lamp & Blacka view the robots they will send in pursuit of Dr. Elite. Immediately following, each one demonstrates its power. As this thread will contain many images, I skip all but the opponents they will destroy.
Uran's 1st victim, from her debut episode.
9, Lamp Deals With Outer Space has a rocket with arms that resembles this robot. I do not think the 3rd robot showed his powers, but they will be seen in action later.
A fairly good rendering of the Panther tank, except the driver's vision port (below the far right headlight) is inaccurate. Note that in just about every other anime that features German WWII tanks, the Tiger I is shown.
Having defeated the army, they seem to have escaped.
This helicopter has features similar to those of the Huey.
Having lost the car, it is piggyback time.
The 1st robot (#100) makes his appearance.
This guy could have been rich, if he had only sold the design for this umbrella to the ACME company. It repels everything, the poor Coyote, if only he had one of these, when boulders were about to fall on him.
How rare it is to see any destructive affects of Atom's jets.
#200 views the signal that #100 has been defeated. Now she will attack.
Why it pays to keep the guns' barrels nice & clean.
I think there is a cliche about daggers flying out of eyes.
This is one of those frames that is so brief, that you really cannot see it in regular speed. Atom, you cad! attacking a female's fanny!
Finally, #300 attacks.
Perhaps the X-Man Cyclops was influential or influenced here.
All seems lost.
Sorry to disappoint you, but I must skip ahead:
The escape finished, the party boards a ship.
Hmmm, this seems suspicious. Plus, what a cute expression!
All is well, so they who fear not flying, fly away in a helicopter.
Red gloats over his victory.
Poor Atom, after all that, he is helpless.
Spika is laughing; but why?

Also doesn't he usually wear glasses?
I did not see the candle in that sequence. irate: I had not even notice his lack of spectacles, until you just mentioned it. Since this is set in the 21st century, maybe his character had LASIK.

I noticed immediately as well. They probably had to animate this episode faster than usual or on a tighter budget.
It's especially noticeable in this shot among others. On the other hand I really like this one, it's cute.
