The item at top center is a speaker, & the man (below) is saying something.

Image
For those who find this guy familiar, he is the one who instigated the anti-robot riot in ROBOT FORTESS (MYSTERY OF AMLESS DAM); Ladd & Co. named him BIG BOSS BARKER; I could not find a JLV name for him.

Apparently, Higeoyaji-sensei was not satisfied with that film. :p

While outside:

This robot dog will eat the butterfly, which it turns out, is an energy-stealing robot. The dog will collapse.

I have the frames for an animated GIF.

Image
"This is a robot!"

Image

This is a hilarious sequence, though rather long for an animated GIF:
Image

Image

Image
After deciding that using a flyswatter was futile, Higeoyaji attempted to blow away (literally) the offending butterflies. Note that the crowd in the background remained motionless the entire time.

Image
Another out of screen occurrence.

Image

Image
I do not know what is happening here. The visuals for Atom's super-hearing are much different.

Image
Also featured in AMLESS DAM, THERMO at right.

Image

Image
'Oops!'

Image

Image
Is this a genuine Ninja trick; the one that creates false images?

Image
False images indeed, but not a Ninja trick.

Image
I omitted several images, so I will clarify: Young scientist Hanabusa (so-named in TRANSPARENT GIANT; & named 'Rokar' by Ladd) had been employed by this story's villain, then imprisoned after serving his purpose. Atom seems like he will kill the poor guy when they crash through the steel doors; yet, somehow, no harm will come to Hanabusa.

To be continued--

Wonder if that theater is where Disney got his idea for the surround vision 360 stuff you see at WDW and DL?

I can recall many times when Atom smashes through a wall carrying a person and somehow he safely clears the way. That and the way he stays suspended in mid air while blasting his jets 360 degrees to blow stuff away are some examples of the laws of physics being broken big time by Tezuka. Then again, many other cartoons are even worse!

That flying shoe seems to be moving so fast that it probably occupied only a few frames and might have been nearly subliminal, like Atom himself was in "operation escape" (I've been thinking of using avidemux to pull out single frames of that one for an animated GIF, it would be impossible with mplayer)

Good shot of Cobalt snoozing there.

I wonder if the visual on Atom's hearing was due to a very high pitched sound?

The person that Atom rescued from the jail cell looked like Rock.

Heheh, I'm not certain, but I think that the boss man was yelling abuse at the children for one reason or another (I'm pretty sure I heard "robot" thrown out there a lot), and Higeoyaji tossed the shoe in response.

When April first posted that shot of Cobalt snoozing, I thought that it was from Robot Mayor, some sort of scene on an air plane I suppose, because she never clarified. I felt rather stupid about it when I realized that this apparently wasn't the case...

I also originally thought that these were moths, because of the shape of the bodies, and supported by the copious amounts of dust from their wings. However, I was wondering about that, as while moths are sometimes called "computer bugs", there were no computers in the 60's that I know of. Weren't those invented in the 80's?

First of all those were robot moths or butterflies so they could look like whatever Tezuka wanted them to. As for computers being invented in the '80s! You are about 40 years too late on that! In fact if you include the work of Babbage you are about 120 years too late!
The electronic digital computer has its roots going back to the end of WWII. ENIAC, the first true stored program computer was invented in 1946 and used vacuum tubes for its active devices. The IBM 360 mainframe was first sold in 1964, and it was NOT the first product that the computer giant had sold to computerize businesses. The mini computer, which would lead up to todays PCs was first sold in 1961 by the Digital Equipment company. The PDP-1 was the first in a long line of such machines. The first PC was the Altair 8800 in 1976.
And you are right about a moth being the first computer bug. Such an insect was removed from a relay type computer by none other than Rear Admiral Grace Hopper who invented the term.

BTW: Guess where that shot of "Cobalt the sailor" comes from?

Geez, you don't need to lay into me for not knowing that! Damn!

Heh, I remembered the thing about moths from a nature program I saw a really long time ago. I can't remember what it is abut them that's so destructive, though- I think it's the dust, but I could easily be wrong. If so, please, restrain yourself from any future tirades because someone didn't know something that you did. I felt that it was a bit caustic.

Err- Cobalt the sailor? I remember that he was dressed up as a cowboy in this episode- I knew that before I even saw it. But I've never seen him as a sailor, or with any relation to sailing at all.

Ahh, I didn't mean to lay into you, just was showing off my knowledge of computer history (my livelyhood you understand). But I did have a Senior moment when I said Sailor, I meant Cowboy so I guess we're even.

I have frames for GIFs, this is a really clean clip of the police cruisers.

Here is another one for GIFs, though it requires many frames:

Here is another good clpi:

Oh, yes, the director is offering to make stars of all three; apparently he has ulterior motives. :d evil:

Just this part would be a nice addition to the Cobalt GIF.

Talk about caller ID! This video phone penetrates disguises!

I listened carefully to catch the guy's name, which seemed to be SMOKUS KOKOUS; & seeing this frame, thought KOKOUS might be Japanese for screen, but not in my pocket J-E dictionary.

"I thought you brought the popcorn!

The refrigerator & Thermo robots are out there creating the fog. I believe this is an actual sponsor for the series.

I had to skip many frames here, but the guy was holding these three hostage

The helicopters had held a web-shaped net that snared the moths, though it now seems like a standard butterfly catching net:

Couldn't SMOKUS KOKOUS just be a play on words like "Hokus Pokus"?

I think the frame where Astro picks up the ship might have been an example of reuse. This was in the opening from the first season.
